Available from Guitar Pedals Amps & Stuff for only £ 198 – The Legendary Frank Zappa The late Frank Zappa was an American musician with a career that spanned more than thirty years in the 70s and 80s. His music played an influential part in jazz fusion due to his unique sound and lyrics on controversial issues such as politics structures and movements often humorous. Due to his unique sound and iconic status Keeley decided to capture that same sound and make it available to Zappa fans. This pedal cleverly explores some of those same sounds from the past. Bubbletron The Bubbletron takes its inspiration from the MicMix DynaFlanger which was famously used by Frank Zappa to achieve his iconic sound from the 70s and 80s which featured a dynamic flanger effect to reach envelope based flanging in his solos. A dynamic flanger starts and stops based on your pick attack or envelope and similarly to this the Bubbletron uses your playing to start and stop the flanger. Control Options Unlike other flanger pedals on the market the Bubbletron cycles its effect only when you play and works in dynamic with your pick attack and strength. It also offers both positive and negative feedback with its FDBK Rate control delivering a choice of sounds from a hollow tone to a thicker smoother sound. The Sensitivity control allows you to set how sensitive you want the flange effect to be from a delicate strum to heavy fingerpicking. The Depth control allows you to control how deep you want the flanging effect to be. DynaMoPhase The Phase section of the Bubble Tron features two phaser effects. One has an LFO that you set the speed of with the Rate Control and the other is a true Dynamic Phaser. It starts and stops based on your pick attack and allows options for adjusting the Depth and Sensitivity delivering a very watery sound based on your guitar’s signal. Random Stepped Filter Players can also benefit from the random stepped filter with proprietary M-Style Synth bandpass shaping that allows you to control the different ramps or random nature of the pedal with the shape control option. FeaturesA Flanger and Phaser in one compact unit with random stepped filter Incorporates signal manipulation techniques used by Frank Zappa Three modes of operation including Filter Phase and Flange Responds to your pick attack as you play for an optimum effect Offers both positive and negative feedback with its FDBK controlSpecificationsControls: Rate Sensor Depth and Level Inputs: 1 x 1/4″ Outputs: 1 x 1/4″ Power Source: 9V DC power supply (sold separately)

Phaser

A guitar phaser is an electronic effect used to alter the sound of a guitar by creating a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum of the audio signal. This effect is achieved through a process called phase shifting, where the audio signal is split into two paths. One path remains unchanged, while the other is subjected to an all-pass filter that shifts its phase. When these two signals are recombined, they interfere with each other, creating the characteristic swooshing or swirling sound associated with phasers. This effect can add a sense of movement and depth to the guitar’s tone, making it a popular choice for both rhythm and lead playing.

Phasers often come with controls that allow the guitarist to manipulate various parameters of the effect. Common controls include the rate or speed of the phase shifting, which determines how quickly the peaks and troughs move through the frequency spectrum. Another typical control is the depth, which adjusts the intensity of the effect by varying the extent of the phase shift. Some phasers also offer resonance or feedback controls, which emphasize certain frequencies and can create more pronounced, dramatic effects. These adjustable parameters make the phaser a versatile tool, capable of producing subtle modulation to extreme, spacey sounds.

The phaser effect has a rich history in music, with notable usage across different genres. In the 1970s, phasers became particularly popular in rock and funk music, with bands like Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones using them to create psychedelic and immersive soundscapes. Songs like “Breathe” by Pink Floyd and “Shattered” by The Rolling Stones showcase the distinct, swirling sound of the phaser. Over the years, phasers have continued to evolve, with modern digital models offering more precise control and additional features. Despite technological advancements, the core appeal of the phaser remains its ability to transform a guitar’s tone, adding a dynamic, textured quality that can enhance any musical piece.
