Description

Joey Landreth is a longtime Revv collaborator & award-winning touring & recording artist known for his baritone slide playing, impeccable phrasing, & deep appreciation of high-quality guitar gear. The D20 JL features the same boutique tube clean / edge of breakup tones & direct performance technology as the D20 MK2, with custom voicing tweaks for Joey as well as his unique tolex, grille, chassis, & knob choices.

Joey’s unique style utilizing quite low open tunings & lots of slide calls for a sound with extra headroom, a tight low end, & a bit of a “fast” feel to keep everything together. His amps also need to be able to handle plenty of aggressive pedals & complex effects. Joey had been a long time user of Revv amps, but as he used his Dynamis amps more & more, eventually we wanted to see what specific tweaks he would make. Much like the D25 JL, the D20JL has these voicing changes to make sure he achieves a warm but crystal clear sound regardless of what else is in the signal chain. While playing slide in Open C with 19-65 gauge strings may sound like a niche use case, many players of all kinds told us they really liked the midrange of Joey’s custom voicing, & found that it excels at slightly dirty tones.

While Joey often keeps things straightforward & plays the D20 JL with his matching 1×12 JL cabinet equipped with Revv’s exclusive custom RV-90 speaker, he has also historically taken advantage of the D20’s more advanced options like its Two notes functionality & effects loop. This includes various stereo rigs, wet/dry setups, & even utilizing the Two notes Torpedo’s own reverb on the XLR out. The D20 JL runs the whole gamut: whether you want “just” a great tube amp, or plan on using all of the quality of life features to their fullest. Of course, just like the new D20 MK2, Joey’s amp benefits from the new onboard reverb & making the gain boost switchable as well.

The most important part of the D20 to us is the tone, & we knew we were on the right track with the original D20 when artists like Joey plugged in & said “wow, that’s really good!” without knowing about any of the special features yet. For the D20 JL, we’re proud to provide a customized amp based on Joey’s input. Not only does it give you, the player, another tonal option to find exactly what’s right for you, it’s also just cool seeing his custom aesthetic choices & name on the front – he’s an amazing artist. If you’re looking for an organic, reliable, portable tube amp that’s well suited to any kind of performance or recording situation, there’s a good chance that the D20 JL will give you the exact clarity, feel, & tone that you’ve been looking for.

Amp Heads

An amp head contains the core tone and power of a guitar amplifier without the built-in speakers, allowing you to pair it with the cabinet of your choice. This setup offers greater flexibility over sound and volume, as different speaker cabinets can dramatically change the feel and character of the amp. Amp heads are available in valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, ranging from low-wattage studio models to high-powered touring rigs. They’re ideal for players who want a modular setup, precise control over their tone, and the ability to adapt their rig to different venues, cabinets, or recording situations.

Amps

Guitar amps cover everything needed to amplify, shape, and project your guitar sound, from small practice setups to full stage and studio rigs. In this category you’ll find combo amps, separate amp heads and speaker cabinets, covering valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, each offering a different feel and response. You’ll also see modelling and digital amps, built-in effects, footswitches, attenuation solutions, replacement speakers, valves, and essential accessories to keep an amp performing at its best. Whether you’re chasing pristine cleans, classic crunch, or modern high-gain tones, guitar amps and related gear are all about finding the right balance of power, tone, and control for the way you play.
