A significant part of the so-called “British Invasion” of the ’60s and ’70s was not just the bands, but the equipment too — particularly amplifiers! Orange was a company that crafted an iconic sound and established a following that started in the late ’60s with endorsers like Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac, and even Led Zeppelin. By the mid-to-late ’70s, Orange amps had exported around the world, and guitar players everywhere were captured by their raw sound that was so different to Marshall or Hiwatt… and very loud!

Designer Björn Juhl is very familiar with this tone having played those amps in the late ’70s and repairing a few along the way too. He has captured this “crude” distortion sound in the Fluorescent Orange AIAB drive pedal. With 56dB of gain and a noise level at about -80dB, the unit is ideal for classic and hard rock overdrive, and even early metal distortion — with none of the noise! The Fluorescent Orange AIAB works best with humbucking pickups, but there is more than enough thick distortion on tap to satisfy single-coil and P90 users as well.

One Control ‘BJF Series’ Pedals

One Control are well-known for their pedal switchers and pedalboard management devices, but they also make their own effects — the BJF Series! These mini pedals are designed by Björn Juhl, a legend within the stompbox sphere who’s highly regarded for his work with Mad Professor, Barefoot FX and his own company, BJFE. These stompboxes not only sound great, but save precious pedalboard real-estate too!

Björn Juhl on the Fluorescent Orange AIAB:

“The Fluorescent Orange AIAB has that immortal distortion we recall from the late ’70s. As with all the One Control BJF Series pedals, the Fluorescent Orange can be used anywhere in the signal chain, and we encourage you to experiment. It can change the sound of your amp on its own, or be used as a preamp for other drives.”

Distortion

Distortion pedals deliver the raw, aggressive edge that defines rock and metal, transforming your clean tone into something powerful and full of attitude. By pushing your signal into rich harmonic saturation, they create thick, sustaining sounds that cut through any mix. From classic crunchy riffs to high-gain modern mayhem, distortion pedals give you total control over how wild or tight your tone gets. Whether you’re crafting searing leads or heavy rhythm walls, they’re an essential tool for adding energy, bite, and character to your playing.

preamp

A preamp is a stage in the signal chain that boosts the guitar’s signal and shapes its core tone before it reaches the power amp or recording interface. Preamp pedals and units can add gain, EQ, and character, helping define clarity, warmth, and drive while forming the foundation of a player’s overall sound.
