Description

The Friedman Runt is the latest in small sized amplifiers from the boutique kings of British rock tones. Handmade in the USA this premium little amplifier has 50w of all valve power which may not sound like much but wait until you heard the volume and feel the low end coming out of this little thing. 2 Channels The heart and soul of any Friedman amp is in the overdrive. While they do replicate the best of classic black and gold British clean tones with a modern twist as well, the overdrive is where Friedman really shine. With 2 channels you get the best of both worlds in this amp with a powerful and loud overdrive channel as well as a beautiful midrange heavy clean channel that man rockers love. Crystal Clear One of the big issues of small amps is a lack of string definition when using a lot of gain. While a lot of classic rock and metal styles don’t mind losing out on that for the extra distortion some modern players want clarity in their notes. By using the cleanest signal path possible Friedman have managed to tune the Runt so you can hear every individual note even in massive chords. This also helps single note lines really push the amp and sing. Cab Sim Out Wait what? A cab sim out on a boutique amp like this? Yep Friedman have spent a long time working on this part of the amp to make sure it is usable in every situation unlike some other direct outs. Plus it even has an internal load box so you don’t even need to use the speaker. Just set up as normal, plug the XLR in to the back, run that off to front of house and you are ready to rock. With two different ‘mic positions’, level controls and a ground/lift switch you may be surprised just how many times you use this feature. Pedal Lovers Dream Is there anything this amp doesn’t do! This amp loves pretty much any pedal you can chuck at it. From overdrives, boosts and fuzzes in the front end (especially pushing that overdrive channel set to a light crunch), to chorus, reverb, delay, and pretty much anything else in the ultra clear, series effects loop. Everything you would want to use with this amp will sound great. Here’s what Friedman say about the Runt 50w Head The Runt-50 is a 50-watt all tube head that delivers Friedman’s legendary tone in a versatile 2-channel amp. The Runt-50 power section is driven by two EL-34s, with four 12AX7s in the preamp. The American-inspired clean channel features volume, bass, treble, and a three-position bright switch that delivers anything from pristine cleans to a slightly broken-up blues/country tone. The heart and soul of the Runt-50 is the overdrive channel, which will take you from classic rock to all-out assault. Use the Boost switch and Gain knob to dial in the perfect amount of overdrive. A global presence control shapes the high-frequency response of the Runts power section. The Runt delivers the tight bottom end and midrange that is typically only found in much higher-wattage amps by utilizing custom transformers and the cleanest signal path possible. The Runt is ideal for many styles of music from blues to classic rock and heavy metal by merely adjusting the gain and master controls. Plugging into the Runt, you will instantly notice the harmonically rich detailed chords and resonating single note lines. This amp cleans up exceptionally well with the guitar’s volume knob, even with the amp on higher gain settings. This is the first amp Dave Friedman has ever made with a cab-simulated XLR output. Comparing this analog circuit to some of the most intricate computer-based IRs, Dave achieved a direct output you can proudly send to front of house or use in the studio. The XLR output includes a ground-lift, level, and center/edge of speaker cone simulation switches. This Runt was designed to take pedals well and loves boosts, ODs, phasers, flangers, tremolos, and wahs. The ultra-transparent no tone loss, buffered, series effects loop takes time-based effects pedals and rack units equa…

Amp Heads

An amp head contains the core tone and power of a guitar amplifier without the built-in speakers, allowing you to pair it with the cabinet of your choice. This setup offers greater flexibility over sound and volume, as different speaker cabinets can dramatically change the feel and character of the amp. Amp heads are available in valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, ranging from low-wattage studio models to high-powered touring rigs. They’re ideal for players who want a modular setup, precise control over their tone, and the ability to adapt their rig to different venues, cabinets, or recording situations.

Amps

Guitar amps cover everything needed to amplify, shape, and project your guitar sound, from small practice setups to full stage and studio rigs. In this category you’ll find combo amps, separate amp heads and speaker cabinets, covering valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, each offering a different feel and response. You’ll also see modelling and digital amps, built-in effects, footswitches, attenuation solutions, replacement speakers, valves, and essential accessories to keep an amp performing at its best. Whether you’re chasing pristine cleans, classic crunch, or modern high-gain tones, guitar amps and related gear are all about finding the right balance of power, tone, and control for the way you play.

50W

Products with the 50W tag have an amplifier or power stage whose stated output is 50 watts. Wattage alone does not determine perceived loudness, clean headroom or suitability for a room: speaker efficiency, impedance, cabinet design, amplifier type and how the power is measured also matter. Compare the complete specification and intended practice, recording or performance use.

Amp

An amp is an amplifier used to boost the signal from a guitar and shape its overall tone and volume. It plays a major role in how a guitar sounds, influencing everything from clean clarity to natural overdrive and distortion, and is a core part of any guitar setup for both practice and live performance.

Amp Head

Guitar amp heads contain the main tone-shaping and power section of an amplifier, designed to be paired with a separate speaker cabinet. They let you choose different cabinets to suit your sound and setup, offering flexibility for home, studio or live use. If you want control over volume, tone and character without being tied to a single combo format, amp heads give you a modular way to build the rig that works best for you.
