If you play electric guitar you will have most likely faced a tube screamer at some point. One of the most loved versions of this iconic pedal is the incredible TS9 which has been around for over 30 years. Now we have an enhanced version called the Ibanez TS9DX which adds 3 new modes of operation so you can use it for even more.

Hot, +, Turbo and TS9

These are the 4 modes that are available on the TS9DX. While the TS9 offers up the classic overdrive and boost sound you know the original circuit for Hot, + and Turbo mode push your amp even harder. In + mode you get the same tone and response as the TS9 setting just with a bit more grit to push your amp that bit harder. Hot mode introduces more saturation and a touch more gain again while the Turbo mode will really push your amp almost into a more fuzz like tone but still with the playability of a sweet overdrive.

Still A Classic

Even with all of these new modes the TS9DX has not changed what made the TS9 so popular. It still responds in exactly the same way with the same amount of gain so even if you are upgrading from the standard TS9 you can still get your tone of choice. This effect has been used for years as a standalone blues drive or to push an already driven amplifier in to saturation heaven. This is a pedal that deserves a place on everyones pedalboard.

Overdrive

Overdrive is a type of guitar effect that simulates the natural distortion that occurs when a tube amplifier is pushed beyond its clean limit. Overdrive pedals achieve this by boosting the input signal of the guitar, causing the amplifier to saturate and produce a warm, saturated, and crunchy sound.

Overdrive pedals are commonly used in various styles of music, including rock, blues, and punk, to add grit, sustain, and harmonic richness to the guitar’s sound. They are versatile tools that can be used to achieve a wide range of tones, from subtle breakup to full-on distortion, depending on the settings and the amplifier being used. Some classic examples of overdrive pedals include the Ibanez Tube Screamer, the Boss OD-1, and the Fulltone OCD, among others

About Ibanez

The Hoshino Gakki company began in 1908 as the musical instrument sales division of the Hoshino Shoten, a bookstore chain. Hoshino Gakki decided in 1935 to make Spanish-style acoustic guitars, at first using the “Ibanez Salvador” brand name in honor of Spanish luthier Salvador Ibáñez, and later simply “Ibanez”.

In the 1970s, the Nisshin Onpa company who owned the Maxon brand name, developed and began selling a series of effect pedals in Japan. Hoshino Gakki licensed these for sale using the name Ibanez outside Japan. These two companies eventually began doing less and less business together until Nisshin Onpa ceased manufacturing the TS-9 reissue for Hoshino Gakki in 2002.
