Available from Guitar Pedals Amps & Stuff for only £ 23.9 – Heavy Low-Ends & Prolonged Sustain The Behringer HD300 Heavy Metal Distortion Effects Pedal is something of an odd beast in that it has no clipping section all the distortion comes from a two-stage distortion circuit. Its heavy sound is all thanks to ingenious design features in place of a traditional clipping stage. The capacitors at the input and output of the transistor stage are not polarised enough to function properly with the input/output AC signal so this will likely add distortion along with the emitter follower at the output of the stage due to the high level of the signal and its own slight asymmetrical bias. This is on top of the fact that this entire section itself adds some asymmetric distortion thanks to using both PNP and NPN transistors. All these factors combine to generate crossover distortion and give the HD300 its characteristic sound and distorted tones. Features Pushes distortion to the maximum with crushing bottom-heavy effects for modern metal & hard rock Dual distortion with gain boost circuitry for super thick & heavy distortion with brutal low-end punch & endless sustain Dedicated gain boost distortion tone bottom & level controls Status LED for effect on/off & battery check Operates on 9-volt battery or the Behringer PSU-SB 9V DC power supply (sold separately) Electronic on/off switch for highest signal integrity in bypass mode Specifications Input Connector: 1/4 TS Impedance: 500kΩ Output Connector: 1/4 TS Impedance: 1kΩ Power Supply USA/Canada: 120V 60Hz China/Korea: 220V 50Hz UK/Australia: 240V 50Hz Europe: 230V 50Hz Japan: 100V 50/60Hz Power Connector: 2 mm DC Jack Negative Centre Battery: 9V Type 6LR61 Power Consumption: 30 mA Weight: 0.33 kg Dimensions Height: 54 mm Width: 70 mm Depth: 123 mm
Distortion is a guitar effect that alters the signal’s waveform, creating a gritty, aggressive sound characterized by a high level of harmonic content and sustain. It’s achieved by amplifying the input signal to the point where the amplifier or pedal’s circuitry begins to clip, causing the waveform to become squared off and jagged. This clipping produces harmonics that weren’t present in the original signal, resulting in the characteristic “gritty” or “dirty” tone associated with distortion. Distortion pedals typically feature controls for adjusting the amount of gain or distortion applied, as well as tone-shaping knobs to tailor the sound’s frequency response. Distortion is widely used in rock, metal, and punk music to add power, aggression, and sustain to guitar solos, riffs, and rhythm parts, creating a bold and intense sonic impact in the mix. Popular distortion pedals include the Boss DS-1, Pro Co Rat, and Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi.

Behringer Ultra Chorus UC200: Known for its lush and spacious chorus tones, this pedal allows guitarists to add depth and dimension to their sound. It features controls for rate, depth, and level. Behringer Vintage Tube Overdrive TO800: This pedal emulates the warm, tube-driven overdrive sound. It’s designed to deliver classic overdrive tones reminiscent of vintage tube amps. Behringer Digital Reverb DR600: Offering different reverb types, this pedal can create ambient and spacious reverberation effects. It includes settings for room, hall, plate, and more. Behringer Tremolo TR300: This pedal produces tremolo effects, adding rhythmic modulation to the guitar signal. It comes with speed, depth, and waveform controls for versatile tremolo sounds. Behringer Super Fuzz SF300: This pedal aims to recreate vintage fuzz tones, providing a range of aggressive and fuzzy distortion sounds.
While these Behringer pedals offer various effects at an affordable price point, it’s important to note that individual preferences and requirements may vary. Some guitarists find these pedals to be great for entry-level use or experimenting with different effects, while others might seek higher-end pedals for professional performance or studio work due to concerns about durability and sound quality.
Before purchasing any guitar effect pedal, it’s advisable to try them out if possible, or listen to demos/reviews online to ensure they align with your specific sound preferences and playing style. Additionally, personal preferences regarding the build quality, durability, and tonal characteristics should be considered when choosing a guitar effect pedal, including those made by Behringer.
