Description

The Riviera is one of Epiphone's most enduring electric guitar models. First introduced in the early '60s, the instrument has spanned multiple musical generations and transcended various genres – finding favour with the likes of Robben Ford, Otis Rush, Lou Reed and Nick Valensi (The Strokes).

Keeping many of the signature design elements intact – including an ES semi-hollow body, a punchy mini humbucker pairing, an elegant Frequensator tailpiece and a unique 3-layer pickguard – this reimagined Epiphone Riviera promises a nostalgic sound with superb playability to boot!

Classic Construction

The Epiphone Riviera's body is crafted from strong layered Maple, which is used to form its top, back and sides. Giving the instrument plenty of vibrancy, definition and acoustic-like volume, this is coupled with a solid Maple tone block that creates amazing sustain and resonance.

To add some mid-range warmth, the Riviera's body is joined with a Mahogany neck; topped with an Indian Laurel fingerboard for a silky touch under the fingers. The neck adheres to a rounded "C" profile, which provides excellent comfort for traditionalists and contemporary players alike, while 22 medium jumbo frets offer a controllable feel for vibrato and string bends.

Epiphone PRO Mini Humbuckers

Epiphone's Riviera guitar is instantly recognisable for its dual mini humbucker configuration. This 21st Century iteration comes equipped with two proprietary Epiphone PRO pickups; delivering punchy, mid-heavy tones that are rich in harmonic content. These versatile hum-cancelling pickups are suitable for a range of musical styles – from soulful blues all the way up to modern indie and rock!

High-Quality Hardware

The Epiphone Riviera may be an affordable instrument, but no shortcuts have been taken when it comes to its hardware appointments. Sporting Epiphone's Vintage Deluxe machine heads, a tone-enhancing Graph Tech NuBone nut and a LockTone bridge – you can expect rock-solid tuning stability and fast, stress-free string changes.

More info about this Product

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

Semi-Hollow Electric Guitars

Semi-hollow electric guitars combine elements of solid and hollow body designs, offering warmth and resonance alongside improved sustain and feedback control. Typically built with a centre block running through the body, they deliver an open, airy character while remaining stable at higher volumes. This balance makes them well suited to a wide range of styles, from jazz and blues to indie, rock, and alternative music. Semi-hollow guitars respond well to dynamics and touch, providing a versatile, expressive option for players who want depth without sacrificing control.

Hollow Body

Hollow body guitars have fully hollowed bodies with no solid centre block, giving them a light feel and a naturally resonant acoustic character. This construction allows the body to vibrate more freely, producing an open, airy sound with strong warmth and depth.

They are closely associated with jazz, blues, and early rock and roll, where clean tones, dynamics, and natural resonance are valued. Hollow body guitars offer rich, rounded lows and smooth highs, but are more prone to feedback at high volumes, making them best suited to lower-gain and clean playing styles.

Semi-Hollow

Semi-hollow guitars blend the warmth and resonance of a hollow body with the feedback control and sustain of a solid body. Featuring a solid centre block running through the body, they deliver rich, open tones with added bite — perfect for blues, jazz, rock, and soul. From smooth cleans to gritty overdrive, semi-hollows like the ES-335 have become timeless favourites for players who want depth, character, and versatility in one beautifully balanced instrument.
