Description

The Ibanez PIA (meaning Paradise In Art) is the result of another fruitful collaboration between Ibanez and Steve Vai. It's immediately apparent that this ornate instrument is an evolved version of the Vai’s familiar JEM series of instruments. For the PIA, Ibanez have tweaked a number of features to elevate it to new creative heights.

Body & Neck

Aesthetically, the PIA guitar takes Vai's signature design style to the next level. Eye-catching finishes, intricate floral patterns, luxurious gold hardware – the works.

In terms of functional design, the construction promises precise and dynamic performance. A solid alder body features a renewed take on Vai’s signature handhold feature, while the rosewood fretboard boasts a beautiful multi-coloured blossom inlay. The multi-piece neck is comprised of maple and walnut, and the new PIA neck profile promises graceful navigation of the 24-fret range.

Hardware & Electronics

Arguably the headline feature is an HSH set of new DiMarzio UtoPIA pickups. These have been specially voiced by Vai and DiMarzio to offer a smoother treble response and a more pronounced low-end – pristine modern tones. DiMarzio have also added a distinct finish to the pickups, perfectly complementing the guitar's vibrant aesthetic.

Ibanez's Edge tremolo bridge is combined with the groundbreaking Lion's Claw tremolo cavity. This allows for rapid vibrato with dramatic pitch range – no limits to your expression.

Make no mistake: the PIA range is the culmination of a working relationship between Vai and Ibanez that spans over 3 decades. This is arguably the ultimate Vai signature model, and a first-class performance instrument in every sense.

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

S Style Electric Guitars

S style electric guitars are known for their comfortable contours, versatile tones, and expressive playability. Typically featuring a double-cutaway body and a vibrato bridge, they offer easy access to higher frets and a naturally balanced feel whether standing or seated. Their pickup configurations often favour clarity and articulation, making them well suited to clean sounds, edge-of-breakup tones, and expressive lead playing, while still handling heavier styles with the right setup. S style guitars are valued for their responsiveness to touch and dynamics, making them a popular choice for players who want an instrument that feels fluid, familiar, and adaptable across a wide range of music.
