Description

The Music Man DarkRay II in Spectraflare takes the original DarkRay concept and supercharges it with fully integrated octave up and octave down effects, giving you an outrageously flexible, modern bass platform. Built around a powerful neodymium humbucker and a custom Darkglass preamp, it moves effortlessly from tight, articulate clean tones to colossal, synth-like textures, all with instant visual feedback from the illuminated control rings. Retaining the trusted feel and build quality of a classic Music Man, the DarkRay II pairs an ash body with a roasted maple neck and stainless steel frets for rock-solid tuning stability and long-term reliability. With intuitive controls, three-way switching and push/push functions for both distortion and octave, it is designed to let you shape complex, layered sounds on the fly without losing focus or low-end punch. Darkglass Power with Integrated Octave At the heart of the DarkRay II is a custom Darkglass two-band active preamp with two distinct distortion circuits, Alpha and Omega. On top of this, Music Man have added a fully integrated octave section with selectable octave up or octave down, giving you everything from subtle thickening to full-on synth bass. The result is a bass that can cover modern rock, metal, electronic and experimental styles without the need for a pedalboard full of extra boxes. Intuitive, Performance Ready Controls The DarkRay II is built for live control. A master volume, bass and treble EQ, dedicated distortion knob and dedicated octave knob give you immediate access to your core sound. Both the distortion and octave controls feature push/push switching to select between Alpha or Omega distortion voices, and octave up or octave down respectively. A three-way lever switch lets you choose preamp only, preamp plus octave, or preamp plus octave and distortion, so you can move between foundational tones and huge, harmonically rich textures in an instant. Visual Feedback on a Dark Stage To keep you in control in any environment, the distortion and octave knobs feature LED rings that illuminate when engaged and change colour to indicate the selected mode. This simple but effective visual feedback means you always know exactly which sound is active, even on a dimly lit stage, helping you avoid surprises and focus purely on your performance. Premium Feel and Playability An ash body finished in high gloss polyester and the striking Spectraflare finish give the DarkRay II a bold, modern look to match its sound. The roasted maple neck with ebony fingerboard, 11 inch radius and 22 stainless steel frets delivers a fast, smooth playing experience with exceptional durability. A sculpted five bolt neck joint, lightweight custom tuners and a vintage style top loaded bridge complete a bass that feels as refined and responsive as it sounds. Key Features Darkglass Preamp with Dual Distortion Voices – The custom Darkglass two-band active preamp features Alpha and Omega distortion circuits, selectable via a push/push gain control. This gives you access to tight, focused drive or massive, saturated grind within a single instrument, ideal for covering multiple genres without changing basses. Built In Octave Up and Down – A dedicated octave control with push/push switching lets you choose octave up or octave down, expanding your sonic range from sub-heavy lines to cutting, synth like textures. Because the octave is integrated into the preamp, tracking is tight and switching between modes is fast and seamless. LED Equipped Controls and Flexible Switching – LED rings around the distortion and octave knobs light up when engaged and change colour to show the selected mode, giving you instant visual confirmation of your sound. The three-way lever switch makes it easy to move between preamp only, preamp plus octave, and preamp plus octave and distortion, streamlining complex sound changes mid song.
