Description

This Gibson Custom Select 1964 ES-345 in Sapphire Mist is packed with handpicked details that showcase features that can be found on these unique creations. Gibson Custom Select offers instruments with unique appointments like rare finishes and special hardware specifications. These details are handpicked by highly skilled and trained guitar experts from the Custom Shop. Unique features on this ES-345 include a Sapphire Mist finish, a Dogear P-90 pickup in the neck position, and a Bigsby® vibrato tailpiece. These cool features make this 1964 ES-345 a special instrument to play and appreciate.

Originally released in 1959, the ES-345 is the more ornate sibling of the ES-335, which has signature features like split parallelogram inlays, gold hardware, and multi-ply binding. The body is made from a pressed maple/poplar/maple sandwich that is still formed by the original equipment from the late 1950s. The semi-hollowbody design has been favored by a variety of players throughout the years due to its unique sonic characteristics, combining hollowbody and solid body designs into one guitar. Famous players include blues legend Freddie King and rock ’n’ roll star Noel Gallagher from Oasis. The Gibson ES-345 is a versatile guitar made apparent by the roster of players and can be played on any stage, jazz club, or studio.

Only available as a custom order through Made to Measure and Gibson Custom Select, this ES-345 is a rare bird with unique details. One of the most uncommon features of this guitar is a Dogear P-90 pickup in the neck position, which is very rare to see on any Gibson guitar. In the bridge position is a Custombucker pickup, and both pickups are wired directly to individual Volume and Tone controls. This ES-345 omits the standard Varitone circuit, making the control layout simple and pure. With the addition of a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, this guitar has a slightly more increased neck angle than an ES-345 with a Stop Bar tailpiece. This greater neck angle compensates for the height of the tailpiece, which helps provide a better connection between the strings and the guitar’s bridge.

The neck features a 1964 Medium C neck profile modelled directly from vintage examples. Measuring .874” at the first fret and .957” at the 12th fret, the 1964 neck profile has a similar carve to those found in 1959, which makes it a favourite among vintage guitar aficionados. The neck is carved from solid mahogany and features a solid rosewood fretboard displaying split parallelogram inlays, which is the signature of the ES-345. Rolled fingerboard edges are formed where the binding meets the fretboard, which increases playing comfort.
