The original Argo design is a tweak on the iconic “COB” circuit which allows players the freedom to balance out the Octave Fuzz sounds with a boosted Clean signal. When you set the Fuzz control and Blend control to minimum the Argo circuit functions as a very useful and musical sounding Booster.

When Mick Taylor from That Pedal Show approached me about having that be a switchable feature I was excited to be able to derive more from a circuit that so many players know and love.

Dual Functions

At it’s core the Argo Boost Deluxe is the same topology as the Argo but the additional Footswitch and Red Boost Knob allow to use the boost portion of the circuit by itself. Instead of pairing a new booster inside this new pedal, think of it as changing lanes inside the pedal.

This allows you to have a pair of gain stages that are perfect in front of a drive pedal or drive amp. The boost lets you increase the overall push, and with the push of the FUZZ footswitch you can unleash the full Argo Octave Fuzz sound.

Switchable Highs

Inside the Argo Boost Deluxe there is a HIGHS switch that allows for some more tonal possibilities. In the initial planning for this pedal, Mick has expressed interest in making the boost portion a little brighter overall. Instead of making it a permanent sonic change, we decided to allow players the choice.

The pedal ships stock with the HIGHS switch off. The small switch, when engaged, will add a fine amount of high end sparkle to your signal when using the Boost mode. This bright circuit is not part of the Octave Fuzz sound.

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

The Important stuff

Boost

Boost pedals give your signal that extra push — perfect for cutting through the mix or driving your amp into sweet natural overdrive. Whether you want a clean volume lift for solos or a touch of grit to wake up your tone, a good boost adds clarity, punch, and presence without changing your core sound. Simple, powerful, and essential on any board, a boost pedal can turn a good tone into a great one with just one stomp.

. Deluxe. Fuzz — Fuzz is one of the earliest and most distinctive guitar effects, known for its thick, gritty, and saturated tone that completely transforms your sound. It works by heavily clipping the audio signal, producing a raw, almost broken distortion that defined the sound of the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Classic pedals like the Fuzz Face and Big Muff became legendary for their roaring sustain and rich harmonic texture. Modern fuzz pedals range from vintage-style warmth to wild, synth-like chaos, making them perfect for players who want to add character, attitude, and a touch of chaos to their tone.. Octave. Pedal — Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own..
