The Mockingbird is one of BC Rich’s flagship electric guitars, designed all the way back in 1976! Made famous by the likes of Slash (Guns N’ Roses) and a multitude of metal artists, the gothic-inspired Mockingbird still looks modern and cutting-edge almost 50 years later.

The ST model, from BC Rich’s Legacy Series, is the most popular instrument in the Mockingbird family — distinctive for its elegant Wenge body stringers, open diamond fingerboard inlays, and Grover Imperial tuners. Sizzling-hot DiMarzio D Activator humbuckers give the Mockingbird Exotic ST a huge voice, with the various switches and controls providing a wide tonal palette. This particular model also comes equipped with a recessed Floyd Rose tremolo system.

Key Features

  • Neck-Through-Body Construction — Yields piano-like sustain, with heel-less design and “Shredzilla” deep cut enabling effortless access to the highest frets.
  • Mahogany Body/Wings — A rich-sounding tonewood that adds deep lows and warm mid-range into the sonic mix. The body comes adorned with a beautiful Koa top too!
  • 3-Piece Hard Rock Maple Neck — Layered design ensures maximum strength, for incredible tuning stability. Features ‘Ultra Slim’ profile for lightning-fast playability.
  • Indian Ebony Fingerboard — Dark and silky material, featuring a 12″ radius and 24 frets.
  • Jumbo Frets — Big size offers a controllable feel for wide vibrato and pitch-perfect string bends.
  • DiMarzio D Activator Pickups — Passive, high-output humbuckers designed to eliminate the sterile edginess commonly associated with active pickups. Provide plenty of headroom and respond quickly to your picking attack, with ceramic magnets yielding a balanced sound.
  • ‘Varitone’ Control & Mini Switches — Alongside the customary 3-way pickup selector switch and volume/tone knobs, the Mockingbird ST also features a 5-way ‘Varitone’ filter switch which subtly adjusts the guitar’s EQ. There are 3 mini toggles too: two of these “tap” the humbuckers for single-coil sounds, and the third switch reverses the phase.
  • Floyd Rose 1000 Series Locking Tremolo — Dip and dive-bomb to your heart’s content without losing tune. Recessed design allows you to pull up on the bar to raise the pitch too, as well as create choatic “flutter” effects!
  • Grover Imperial Tuners — Renowned in the guitar industry for their quality, with 18:1 gear ratio allowing you to tune precisely.
  • Great For – Rock, Heavy Metal

Stuff About Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

Stuff About Guitars

Guitars cover a wide range of instruments designed to suit different styles, techniques, and sounds, from acoustic and classical models to solid body, semi-hollow, and hollow electric designs. Factors like body shape, scale length, neck profile, string type, and pickups all influence how a guitar feels and responds, making each type suited to different players and musical approaches. Whether used for rhythm, lead, songwriting, or experimentation, guitars are expressive, versatile instruments that form the heart of countless genres and playing styles.

Stuff About Solid Body Electric Guitars

Solid body electric guitars are built from a solid piece or pieces of wood, giving them excellent sustain, stability, and resistance to feedback at higher volumes. This construction makes them well suited to amplified playing across a wide range of styles, from clean and articulate tones to heavy, high-gain sounds. Their design allows pickups and hardware to play a major role in shaping tone, while the solid body provides a consistent, reliable feel. Solid body electric guitars are valued for their durability, versatility, and ability to perform confidently on stage and in the studio.
