The Benson Germanium Fuzz is influenced by classic '60s fuzz topology, using a pair of meticulously-matched 2N527 transistors. However, Benson has added some clever updates to the circuit which ingeniously avoid the notorious negatives associated with vintage Ge fuzzes, while keeping all of the beloved germanium tones intact.

Automatic Thermal Bias Technology – Optimal Fuzz Sounds at All Times!

One crucial update is a warming circuit that keeps the transistors at optimum working temperature, no matter the external environment. When the LED is orange, the circuit is warming up. When it goes green, the ideal temperature has been achieved and the warmer automatically turns off. It's normal for this LED to toggle back and forth between orange and green as it does its work to keep the transistors operating at the perfect temperature.

Built-In Buffer & Pickup Simulator

Further improvements include buffer and pickup simulator circuits to cure the often nasty interaction between Ge fuzzes and other buffered pedals that sit before them in the chain. After the pickup sim, an impedance control has been added — allowing you to get that "guitar volume rolled back" sound without touching the guitar volume at all. Turn the impedance counter-clockwise for more hair, gain, and output, or clockwise for a tight, sparkling drive!

The Benson Germanium Fuzz is an amazing all-around dirt pedal, generating everything from warm boost and overdrive sounds, to traditional fuzz and burly distortion tones. It's a classic-sounding fuzz with practical, modern-day enhancements — a worthy addition to any pedalboard.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Fuzz

Fuzz is one of the earliest and most distinctive guitar effects, known for its thick, gritty, and saturated tone that completely transforms your sound. It works by heavily clipping the audio signal, producing a raw, almost broken distortion that defined the sound of the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Classic pedals like the Fuzz Face and Big Muff became legendary for their roaring sustain and rich harmonic texture. Modern fuzz pedals range from vintage-style warmth to wild, synth-like chaos, making them perfect for players who want to add character, attitude, and a touch of chaos to their tone.

Germanium

Germanium pedals use vintage-style germanium transistors or diodes to produce a warm, soft, and organic sound that dates back to the earliest guitar effects of the 1960s. They are best known for smooth fuzz and low-gain tones with rounded edges, gentle compression, and a natural, musical breakup.

Compared to modern silicon-based pedals, germanium effects are more touch-sensitive and respond strongly to your playing dynamics and guitar volume control. They are prized for expressive, vintage character and are commonly found in classic fuzzes, treble boosters, and low-gain overdrives, particularly suited to blues, classic rock, psychedelic, and garage styles.

Pedal

Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own.

White

White describes a clean, classic finish commonly used on guitars, pedals, and amplifiers. It offers a timeless look that can range from bright and modern to aged or vintage-styled, pairing easily with a wide variety of hardware and designs while keeping a simple, uncluttered appearance.
