The Epoch Bias Preamp pedal expands upon the original Ep-3 Echoplex that was responsible for defining generations of rock ‘n’ roll tone. Catalinbread has innovated the pedal with a few impactful adjustments like the Bias Control, allowing you to alter the base gain and body of the 3-band EQ, adding an organic boost to your tone. Experience tone-shaping abilities that have spanned generations and genres.

Key Features

  • EP-3 Inspired – Building upon the classic Echoplex circuit, Catlinbread have gone one step further by combining the iconic circuit with new additions like a boost and filter controls.
  • Subtlely Control Your Tone – Catlinbread’s enhancements allow you to refine your tone even further than before, giving you sweet subtle filtration, or encompassing gain.

Preamp EP-3

The Volume knob acts in the same way as the original EP-3 – at its core it is a wet-dry mix controlling the space between ‘nothing’ and the preamp itself. Acting as a volume control until dialled at noon, you’ll notice going beyond that you’ll experience subtle frequency enhancements thanks to the loading simulation circuit.

Bias Control

Allowing you to dial in the hot or cold circuit, this knob gives you variation in gain from the preamp, think of it as a gain enhancer with a snap, crackle, and pop effect.

Filter and Boost Controls

If you want even more gain and volume from the preamp circuit, the Epoch Bias has got your back. The Boost knob is one of the improvements Catalinbread has made to the original EP-3 Echoplex, quite simply it acts as a boost when dialled up, but dialled down, you have a simulated EP-3 pure circuit.

The Filter control adds a tastefully gentle hi-cut filter that exaggerates little differences for a more refined, bluesier tone that sounds great no matter how much of everything else you have on the go.

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

The Important stuff

Pedal — Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own.. preamp.
