Description

Part of a stunning collection of tweed amps the 57 Custom Champ is an amp for the true tone junkie. One of the most popular amps of all time lives again in the ’57 Custom Champ. Renowned for its flexibility, ease of use and knock out tone this is the classic sound heard on thousands of recordings.

A wide variety of playable tones inhabit this hand-wired performer—from crisp, classic cleans to naturally compressed overdrive that responds remarkably to guitar volume and picking dynamic changes.

On the Inside

The Fender 5F1 circuit used in the ’57 Custom Champ has become legendary for its heightened dynamic response and sweet sounding tube overdrive when pushed. A 12AX7 preamp tube matched to a classic 6V6 power amp tube generates this in-demand overdrive. When the volume is cranked, this little wonder sings with the natural compression and rich even-order harmonics of a power tube working at peak output in Class A topology.

Alnico 8″ speaker

The 8” Weber Alnico speaker stays true to the classic Champ sound, compressing to create fat tone at higher levels while more than ably reproducing the raunchy tones found at the top of the amp’s volume knob. The hand-wired circuit includes newly sourced yellow coupling capacitors chosen for their authentically vintage Fender tone—sparkly cleans and creamy overdrive with smooth top end and round mids.

Stylish and classic design

Onstage this amp looks great, retaining classic Champ visual appeal—lacquered tweed, chickenhead knob, leather handle and ¼” inputs for low or high output instruments are all here. In the studio, the 5-watt design means you’ll be able to explore the full range of available tones without overloading sensitive microphones (or your ears). Updated components, hand-wired craftsmanship and a classic circuit design all combine to create the ’57 Custom Champ, a style-spanning performer. Includes a protective cover.

Here’s what Fender say about the 57 range

Fender’s late 1950s family of amps, known as the “Narrow Panel Tweed” models, represented the height of amplifier technology and tone for that time. Their all-tube circuitry, resonant cabinetry, and player-centric feature set combine for what might be the perfect example of beautiful clean tone that can be easily pushed into harmonically rich warm distortion. Six decades later, they continue to be highly prized by professional guitarists and collectors alike. The Fender ‘57 Custom Series comprises of four distinct models, three of which will be familiar to today’s Fender fan. The new ‘57 CUSTOM CHAMP, ‘57 CUSTOM DELUXE, and ‘57 CUSTOM TWIN have all been thoughtfully modified from previous ’57 reissues, employing custom vintage tone capacitors, 12AY7 preamp tubes, and more. A fourth model, the ‘57 CUSTOMPRO-AMP, has never been reissued before. A medium-powered unit, its 15-inch speaker creates unique throaty tones with huge bottom end, yet it has plenty of highs for sparkling electric guitar tone production.
Each ’57 Custom model hits a specific spot in the range, to cover applications from studio to stage to arena. These amplifiers can provide perfect re-creation of historic guitar tones, or can be used as a firm foundation for creating new sounds.
