Description

The Gibson Firebird Platypus pays tribute to an exceptionally rare early 1965 transitional iteration of the esteemed Gibson Firebird, which featured a standard Reverse Firebird body in conjunction with the later ’65 Non-Reverse headstock design. Unlike the previous Reverse design, the Non-Reverse head featured a flat (just like a platypus bill), single-layer 6-a-side headstock with standard Grover Mini-Rotomatic tuners as opposed to the Banjo style found on earlier models. With its iconic Firebird pickguard and its duo of classic Firebird Mini Humbucking pickups packed with punch and bite, the Gibson Firebird Platypus oozes mojo and character and cuts through any mix with its powerful, chimey, vintage-voiced tone!

Key Features

  • Modified Angle – The only alteration to this prestigious design is a modified headstock angle, which helps provide an optimum break angle with less string friction and more stable tuning.
  • Mini Humbuckers – These vintage-accurate Gibson Firebird Mini Humbuckers are made using Alnico V magnets for a tone that strikes the perfect balance of bell-like cleans and thunderous rock ‘n roll!
  • Gibson Firebird – Launched in 1963 and now part of Gibsons ‘Designer’ range, the Firebird was Gibsons response to the rising popularity of solid bodied offset electric guitars. Thanks to its distinctive shape with eye-catching lower horn, the Firebird remains one of Gibson’s most iconic models.

Made in the USA

The Gibson Firebird is proudly crafted in the USA using the best tonewoods, hardware, electronics and pickups and expertly finished with nitrocellulose lacquer to optimise tone and allow the guitar to breathe and resonate how it should. This Firebird comes with a Gibson hardshell case for optimum protection on the road and even when stored away at home.

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.
