Here’s what Gretsch say:

Get classic ’50s & ’60s -inspired Gretsch sound and style with the all-new Electromatic® Classic Hollow Body guitars. Crafted with essential Gretsch hollow-body sound, style and playability, these no-nonsense guitars are your next-step Gretsch.

The G5420T Electromatic® Classic Hollow Body Single-Cut with Bigsby® features a laminated maple body with vintage-inspired perimeters and refined arches, as well as all-new trestle block bracing to help reduce unwanted feedback. By increasing rigidity and contact between the top and back of the body, the new trestle block design also results in the sound having a faster attack with more focus, snap, and increased sustain. Coupled with all-new FT-5E Filter’Tron™ pickups, this hollow build’s voice explodes with huge full-bodied punch, classic chime and enhanced presence, clarity and note definition.

An all-new Classic “C”-shaped maple neck offers a more comfortable playing feel for improved playability and performance, and is topped with a 12″-radius laurel fingerboard.

Alive and resonant, the G5420T also features a versatile upgraded control layout including master volume with treble bleed circuit, master tone, individual pickup volume controls and three-position pickup toggle switch, oversized bound F-holes, multi-ply body binding, smaller late-’50s G6120 bound headstock, vintage-style open-back tuning machines, Graph Tech® NuBone® nut, pearloid Neo-Classic™ thumbnail inlays, secured Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and a Bigsby® B60 vibrato tailpiece.

About the manufacturer

Gretsch

Gretsch guitars are renowned for their distinctive tone, vintage style, and craftsmanship that has defined rockabilly, country, and classic rock for decades. Founded in Brooklyn in 1883, Gretsch became iconic through artists like Chet Atkins, George Harrison, and Brian Setzer, whose twangy, resonant sound came from the brand’s signature hollow and semi-hollow body designs. With features such as Filter’Tron pickups, Bigsby tremolos, and ornate finishes, Gretsch guitars blend elegance with attitude. Whether it’s the warm chime of a White Falcon or the punch of a Duo Jet, Gretsch instruments continue to offer timeless character and individuality for players who want something truly unique.

More info about this Product

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

Bigsby

A Bigsby is a vibrato tailpiece system that allows gentle pitch modulation by moving the strings slightly up or down. It is designed for smooth, expressive vibrato rather than extreme pitch effects, giving a subtle, musical wobble to chords and notes.

Bigsby systems are closely associated with vintage and retro-style guitars, particularly in rock and roll, rockabilly, country, and indie music. They add visual character as well as a distinctive feel, and are valued for their smooth action and classic aesthetic rather than aggressive tremolo techniques.

Hollow

Hollow body guitars are known for their warm, open tone and natural resonance, created by a fully hollow construction that allows the body to vibrate more like an acoustic instrument. They are closely associated with jazz, blues and vintage-style sounds, offering rich lows and smooth highs with a more organic feel. If you are drawn to expressive playing, dynamic response and classic character, hollow body guitars bring a distinctive voice that stands apart from solid body designs.

Vintage

Vintage describes gear that is inspired by, or originates from, an earlier era of guitar design and sound. Vintage-style pedals, guitars, and amplifiers focus on classic tones, simpler circuits, and traditional aesthetics, delivering warm, characterful sounds that are closely associated with early rock, blues, and classic recordings.
