Gretsch are famed for their classic hollow body electric guitars. The G5420T Electromatic captures that vibe in style, sound and playability, all at an accessible price. It tips its hat to the legendary single cut Gretschs of old. Featuring premium hollow body construction the Electromatic Hollow Body has a thick and complex resonant tone that screams classic Gretsch due in part to the FT-5E Filter’Trons, which give the guitar all of that classic Gretsch mojo. From pristine, jangly cleans to rocking overdrive, the Filter'Trons are incredibly versatile. They are redesigned to be voiced like the Fiter'Trons in the '50s and '60s guitars. Their low output offers brightness and clarity in buckets, but still have enough power to crunch up when pushed.

The archtop Maple body provides both brightness and resonance that beautifully compliments the Filter'Tron pickups. One modern adaptation is the addition of a master volume with a treble bleed, so when you roll back the volume to clean up, the guitar will remain bright and present. However, if you prefer the sound of a traditional non-treble bleed circuit, you can use the individual volumes, allowing for total tonal flexibility.

Here's what Gretsch say about the G5420LH Electromatic

Get classic ‘50s & ‘60s -inspired Gretsch sound and style with the all-new Electromatic® Classic Hollow Body guitars. Crafted with essential Gretsch hollow-body sound, style and playability, these no-nonsense guitars are your next-step Gretsch.

The G5420LH Electromatic® Classic Hollow Body Single-Cut features a laminated maple body with vintage-inspired perimeters and refined arches, as well as all-new trestle block bracing to help reduce unwanted feedback. By increasing rigidity and contact between the top and back of the body, the new trestle block design also results in the sound having a faster attack with more focus, snap, and increased sustain. Coupled with all-new FT-5E Filter’Tron™ pickups, this hollow build’s voice explodes with huge full-bodied punch, classic chime and enhanced presence, clarity and note definition.

An all-new Classic “C”-shaped maple neck offers a more comfortable playing feel for improved playability and performance, and is topped with a 12”-radius laurel fingerboard.

Alive and resonant, the left-handed G5420LH also features a versatile upgraded control layout including master volume with treble bleed circuit, master tone, individual pickup volume controls and three-position pickup toggle switch, oversized bound F-holes, multi-ply body binding, smaller late-'50s G6120 bound headstock, vintage-style open-back tuning machines, Graph Tech® NuBone® nut, pearloid Neo-Classic™ thumbnail inlays, secured Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and a Gretsch G-cutout tailpiece.

It’s the sound of honour itself—play proud

Stuff About Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

The Important stuff

Body. Classic. Electromatic. Handed. Hollow — Hollow body guitars are known for their warm, open tone and natural resonance, created by a fully hollow construction that allows the body to vibrate more like an acoustic instrument. They are closely associated with jazz, blues and vintage-style sounds, offering rich lows and smooth highs with a more organic feel. If you are drawn to expressive playing, dynamic response and classic character, hollow body guitars bring a distinctive voice that stands apart from solid body designs.. Left — We stock a range of left handed guitars alongside our standard models, ensuring every player can find the right fit.
