The Hephaestus started life as a simple take on the classic Jordan Boss Tone circuit. That little plastic box you plugged directing into your guitar to get that classic “Spirit in the Sky” fuzz sound. By adjusting the voltage to the circuit itself you get a very sporadic octave down effect, essential turning that little plastic fuzz box into the antioctavia.

The Hephaestus features a single external “Warning” knob that adjusts voltage of the unit. When the warning knob is set to maximum (fully clockwise) you get classic fuzz tones but once you hit 1 o’clock, the suboctave effect starts to happen. Continuing to turn the “Warning” knob down makes that octave effect more prevalent. It’s weird, unpredictable, but most importantly it’s incredibly musical. There are riffs to be found in the Hephaestus!

Internally there is a master volume so you can adjust the overall output of the pedal. The Hephaestus comes in a mini size format, features a single external “Warning” control, and has an internal volume trimmer for output level adjustment.

Key Features

  • Warning Knob – The Warning knob on the face of the pedal does not control volume, it doesn’t control gain, it controls voltage feeding the circuit! When maxed out the circuit sounds like the best of the classic circuit, but as you turn the knob down, you adjust the overall voltage entering the circuit. Once the knob hits 1 o’clock something magical happens, a sub octave begins to be introduced! When and where it appears will be very dependent on your guitar and amp setup but it creates a sub octave synth effect you’re sure to love! Further reducing the voltage or WARNING knob will cause even more octave things to happen while reducing the overall gain of the circuit.

Specifications

  • Warning Dial: Controls the voltage feeding the circuit.
  • Bypass: True Bypass
  • Size: Mini
  • Power: 9V DC Adapter (Not included)

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

The Important stuff

Fuzz — Fuzz is one of the earliest and most distinctive guitar effects, known for its thick, gritty, and saturated tone that completely transforms your sound. It works by heavily clipping the audio signal, producing a raw, almost broken distortion that defined the sound of the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Classic pedals like the Fuzz Face and Big Muff became legendary for their roaring sustain and rich harmonic texture. Modern fuzz pedals range from vintage-style warmth to wild, synth-like chaos, making them perfect for players who want to add character, attitude, and a touch of chaos to their tone.. Pedal — Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own..
