The Schecter Hellcat VI is a modern reinterpretation of the classic "Bass VI" that retains the original's quirky, vintage styling but makes it their own.

Bass VI-style instruments are truly unique as they fall somewhere in between a bass and a guitar. They're tuned E-to-G like a standard bass, but are a shorter (30") scale with lighter strings. The result is deep bass-y tones on an instrument that'll feel more familiar for guitarists and provide a different tonal palette and approach for bassists.

Sound

The Hellcat is visually reminiscent of the classic design however the similarities stop there. You might not be able to tell just by looking at it, but this guitar actually features three humbucker pickups. These stacked-coil pickups have the classic single-coil look, but provide a much fatter tone. If you want your tone to be thinner with more spank then just activate the slider switches to coil-split the pickups for a single-coil-like tone.

Hardware

Another difference is the use of a TonePros bridge with a stop tailpiece over the traditional vibrato system. Using a fixed bridge, in combination with a Graph Tech XL Tusq nut, means you'll have much greater tuning stability. This instrument isn't a mere homage, it's a surprisingly versatile bass that can take you into new sonic territories that you've never imagined exploring.

Stuff About Bass Guitars

Bass guitars form the backbone of a band’s sound, sitting between rhythm and harmony to give music depth, weight, and movement. Available in electric and acoustic forms, they focus on delivering strong, controlled low frequencies while remaining clear and responsive to playing dynamics. Factors like scale length, string type, and pickup design all influence tone and feel, allowing bass guitars to suit a wide range of styles and techniques. Whether laying down solid grooves or exploring more melodic lines, a good bass guitar anchors the music and brings everything together.

Stuff About Electric Bass Guitars

Electric bass guitars provide the low-end foundation that supports rhythm, harmony, and groove within a band. Designed for clarity, punch, and control, they translate string vibration into a focused, amplified signal that locks in with drums and drives the music forward. Different scale lengths, pickup configurations, and electronics influence feel and tone, from deep, rounded lows to tight, articulate attack. Whether used for simple supportive lines or more expressive playing, electric bass guitars are essential for shaping the feel and energy of a track.
