The classic ‘student’ bass gets a makeover for the Squier Classic Vibe series. Mustang basses are renowned for their small stature and much bigger character.

Squier have reignited old school aesthetics throughout the Classic Vibe range and the Mustang is one to benefit greatly. This is a real throwback ‘60s instrument in both sound and design.

Construction

This Classic Vibe bass is made of a nato body wood with a standard Fender appointment Maple ‘C’ shape neck. Combined with the spacey 9.5” radius fretboard, there’s plenty of room to manoeuvre across the tall vintage style frets. What makes the Mustang bass great, however, is the smaller than standard 30” scale length. This makes those tricky jumps across the fretboard that bit easier.

Sound

Fender designed the retro low output split coil pickup equipped on the Classic Vibe Mustang. It delivers a tone full of life and character, and snarls when you add a bit of gains to proceedings.

Hardware

You have nothing to worry about in this department – Fender and subsequently Squier are known for their steady hardware that’ll provide plenty of longevity throughout years of playing. The oversized tuning heads, fixed bridge and tortoiseshell pickguard live up to the classic styling.

Bass Guitars

Electric bass guitars provide the low-end foundation that supports rhythm, harmony, and groove within a band. Designed for clarity, punch, and control, they translate string vibration into a focused, amplified signal that locks in with drums and drives the music forward. Different scale lengths, pickup configurations, and electronics influence feel and tone, from deep, rounded lows to tight, articulate attack. Whether used for simple supportive lines or more expressive playing, electric bass guitars are essential for shaping the feel and energy of a track.

Bass Guitars

Bass guitars form the backbone of a band’s sound, sitting between rhythm and harmony to give music depth, weight, and movement. Available in electric and acoustic forms, they focus on delivering strong, controlled low frequencies while remaining clear and responsive to playing dynamics. Factors like scale length, string type, and pickup design all influence tone and feel, allowing bass guitars to suit a wide range of styles and techniques. Whether laying down solid grooves or exploring more melodic lines, a good bass guitar anchors the music and brings everything together.
