Description

Summer School Electronics Fuzz 101 is a back to basics silicon fuzz with all the modern control you actually need. Centred around a pair of classic BC108 transistors and a handful of legendary fuzz tweaks, it moves effortlessly from sputtery Velcro textures to thick, sustaining distortion, with intuitive controls that make it easy to dial in a sound that sits perfectly in your rig and your mix. Alongside the familiar Volume and Fuzz knobs, Fuzz 101 adds an external Bias control for shaping the character and feel of the fuzz, plus a Rat-inspired Tone circuit that lets you either slice through a dense band mix or smooth off the top end for a warmer, more blended sound. Designed and built by working musicians in Syracuse, NY, it is a compact, gig-ready fuzz that delivers classic character with flexible, player-friendly refinement. Classic Silicon Fuzz, Refined At the heart of Fuzz 101 are two BC108 silicon transistors, a staple of many iconic fuzz circuits. Summer School Electronics have taken that familiar voice and refined it with tried-and-tested mods, giving you a wide gain range from gritty breakup to full-on saturated roar. You get the bite, sustain and aggression players expect from silicon fuzz, but with a more controllable response that works across different guitars and amps. Bias Control for Characterful Textures The external Bias control lets you adjust the voltage hitting the transistors, effectively reshaping the feel and texture of the pedal. Starve the circuit for glitchy, sputtering, Velcro-style fuzz that responds dramatically to your picking, or open it up for a fuller, more stable distortion voice. Because the Bias is on the front panel rather than an internal trim, you can tweak it on the fly to suit different songs, tunings or venues. Rat-Inspired Tone Circuit The Tone knob is based on a Rat-style filter, giving you a familiar yet powerful way to sculpt your sound. Roll it back to tame harshness and sit comfortably in a mix, or turn it up to add cut and presence so leads and riffs punch through. This makes Fuzz 101 far more versatile than many vintage-style fuzzes, which can often be either too dark or painfully bright with little in-between. Player-Focused Design and Artwork Fuzz 101 is built by working musicians who understand what players need from a pedal on stage and in the studio. The control layout is straightforward, the gain range is musical and usable, and the circuit is voiced to integrate easily with the rest of your board. The artwork hides classic Summer School Easter eggs, nodding to both pedal building and first-year maths, giving the pedal a distinctive visual identity to match its bold, characterful sound. Key Features Dual BC108 Silicon Transistors – Utilising a pair of BC108 silicon transistors, Fuzz 101 delivers classic, aggressive fuzz tones with strong attack and sustain. This tried-and-true foundation gives you a familiar sonic footprint that works brilliantly for everything from vintage-inspired rock to more modern, high-gain textures. External Bias Control – The front-panel Bias knob lets you adjust the voltage to the transistors, changing the character from spluttery, gated Velcro fuzz to a bigger, more open distortion. This gives you a huge palette of textures without needing multiple pedals, and makes it easy to fine-tune the response to your guitar and playing style. Rat-Inspired Tone Circuit – A Rat-style Tone control provides flexible EQ shaping, allowing you to either cut through a busy mix or smooth out the top end. Whether you need bright, cutting leads or darker, more blended rhythm sounds, the Tone knob helps you find the sweet spot quickly. Built by Working Musicians – Designed and made in Syracuse, NY by active gigging players, Fuzz 101 is voiced and laid out with real-world use in mind. The controls are intuitive, the sounds are immediately usable, and the distinctive artwork gives the pedal a unique personality on your board. SpecificationsGeneral Product: Summe…

About the manufacturer

Summer School Electronics

Summer School Electronics is a boutique pedal builder whose catalogue treats familiar effects as lessons in gain, dynamics and modulation. The range includes Class Reunion overdrive/fuzz, Extra Credit boost, Science Fair overdrive, Fuzz 101, Half Day compressor and Middle School chorus. The names are playful, but the useful differences are serious: clipping type, headroom, compression, EQ and how the circuit reacts to the guitar volume control. These pedals suit players who want recognisable building blocks with enough personality to make stacking and edge-of-breakup work interesting.

Fuzz Pedals

Fuzz drives the signal into extreme clipping, often flattening the waveform and generating a thick spectrum of harmonics. Transistor type, bias, input loading and tone filtering create markedly different responses, from loose and velvety to gated, spluttering or octave-rich. Some circuits interact strongly with pickup impedance and guitar volume, while others include buffers or blends for a more consistent response.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Fuzz

Fuzz is one of the earliest and most distinctive guitar effects, known for its thick, gritty, and saturated tone that completely transforms your sound. It works by heavily clipping the audio signal, producing a raw, almost broken distortion that defined the sound of the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Classic pedals like the Fuzz Face and Big Muff became legendary for their roaring sustain and rich harmonic texture. Modern fuzz pedals range from vintage-style warmth to wild, synth-like chaos, making them perfect for players who want to add character, attitude, and a touch of chaos to their tone.

Guitar Pedal

Guitar pedals alter, route, control or support an instrument signal from the floor. The tag covers individual effects, multi-effects, switching, tuning, looping, amplification and pedalboard utilities. The product category and additional effect tags identify the specific job each pedal performs.
