This pedal will not work with a 9V battery, and requires a 9V DC power supply (not included).

Tone City has established a strong reputation in the pedal market in their relatively short history. Renowned for producing incredible-sounding pedals at affordable prices, their Model M is a classic rock distortion stompbox that emulates some of the world’s most popular black and gold amplifiers.

Featuring two distortion modes and a separate boost circuit, this 2-in-1 pedal is amazingly versatile. New for 2022, the Model M V2 offers an even wider gain range and boasts an improved signal-to-noise ratio. The gain is tighter and smoother than the previous model, resulting in more natural sounding, amp-like tones.

Crunch or High Gain?

The classic British amplifiers that the Model M is based upon covered generations of different tones. That’s why Tone City has tried to emulate their notoriously saturated crunch and high-gain tones in one unit, with the mode switch allowing you to swap between these distinctive sounds.

In crunch mode, you’ll attain nostalgic 60s and 70s rock tones, providing anything from a light overdrive to a raunchy crunch via the dedicated crunch control. In high gain mode, a more modern JCM-style tone is delivered, with a powerful mid-range and hair-raising levels of gain. This will take you from alternative rock to heavy metal at just the turn of a knob.

But if you want even more tonal potency, engage the boost circuit to tighten up your sound and achieve more volume for solos! (Please note: Boost function only works when distortion is engaged, it does not work on its own).

Simple Controls

When you hear about a pedal with two different gain modes as well as a boost function, you’d assume that it would have a dozen complex controls. But Tone City has ensured that the Model M is easy to use, relying on just a select few essential controls.

With its independent gain controls for each distortion mode, the single tone control acts as a master EQ for both, letting you introduce more presence if you’re plugged into a dark-sounding amp.

Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

The Important stuff

City. Distortion — Distortion pedals deliver the raw, aggressive edge that defines rock and metal, transforming your clean tone into something powerful and full of attitude. By pushing your signal into rich harmonic saturation, they create thick, sustaining sounds that cut through any mix. From classic crunchy riffs to high-gain modern mayhem, distortion pedals give you total control over how wild or tight your tone gets. Whether you’re crafting searing leads or heavy rhythm walls, they’re an essential tool for adding energy, bite, and character to your playing.. Pedal — Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects.
