Description

The Wampler Ratsbane Distortion is a full-range distortion pedal that can go from creamy smooth drive to full-blown fuzzy dirt. This versatile little gain machine features an improved filter control the further you crank it the more cutting your tone becomes- from a warm creamy response to a more piercing high-frequency attack. As the name suggests this was designed to become your main distortion pedal; sheer versatility and its rich rounded tone guarantees this will be the case. It wouldnt be a Wampler pedal without a few intuitive additions to the circuitry though: in this case two new toggle switches help bring the thunder. On the left is Gain which alters your gain stages: flick left for a firmer tighter response flick right for a creamier smoother response. On the right is Voice which subtly alters the clipping and compression to deliver more modern high-gain tones. Get experimenting to find your ideal combination.

About the manufacturer

Wampler Pedals

Wampler Pedals builds guitar and bass effects with a strong emphasis on gain, compression, fuzz, modulation and ambience that respond like part of an amplifier rather than a fixed preset. The current range includes Tumnus, Euphoria, Ego, Terraform, Ethereal and other drive and time-based designs. Model-specific controls cover clipping, EQ, blend, stereo routing, presets or MIDI, so the individual pedal matters more than the boutique label. Wampler is a good fit for players who want carefully voiced, stackable sounds and enough control to tune the effect to a particular amp.

Distortion Pedals

Distortion clips the waveform more firmly than overdrive, generating dense upper harmonics, longer sustain and a more compressed response. Circuit topology and filtering decide whether the sound is tight and focused, broad and aggressive, smooth or deliberately abrasive. Gain sets the amount of clipping, while pre- and post-distortion tone controls strongly influence low-end definition, midrange presence and high-frequency texture.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Whether you’re crafting searing leads or heavy rhythm walls, they’re an essential tool for adding energy, bite, and character to your playing.
