The Fortin Zuul is regarded as one of the very best noise gate pedals available today. This mini version of the Zuul packs all the functionality of its full-sized counterpart into a smaller and more pedalboard-friendly enclosure!

Particularly popular with metal players, the Zuul is designed to be used in conjunction with high-gain amps; taming hiss and ensuring an incredibly fast response time. The Zuul can be used into the front end of an amplifier or its effects loop, and is acclaimed for maintaining signal integrity without dulling any harmonic content.

About Fortin Amplification

Fortin Amplification is a familiar name among guitarists that really "know" about tone. Alongside its custom handbuilt amp offerings, the company also produces a number of premium guitar pedals using only the finest components available.

Here's what Fortin Amplification says about the Mini Zuul Noise Gate Pedal:

All the same features as the ZUUL but in mini form factor! The mini ZUUL’s threshold knob also controls the dynamics of the gate circuit. Perfect for guitar, bass or any signal source as it has studio quality specifications. Use in front of an amplifier or in a series effects loop.

Dual colour LED for visual feedback gating action: Green = Open, Orange = Closed, Off = Bypass. The KEY input signal can be directly from your guitar (example split from ROACH or SPLIFF) or other signal source which lets you go from clean to high gain without changing the Threshold knob. This powerful feature lets you control the gate with a different signal than what flows through the input/output jacks of the ZUUL.

Side switch to change the threshold range if you are injecting a large signal into the input and not using the key input. Industry standard true bypass switching. Proudly made in North America.

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Amplification

Amplification is the process of increasing the level of an audio signal so it can be clearly heard through speakers or a sound system. In music equipment, amplification takes place in devices such as guitar amplifiers, bass amps, PA systems, and powered speakers.

Amplification plays a key role in shaping tone as well as volume, influencing dynamics, response, and overall character. Different amplification designs, including valve, solid-state, and digital systems, offer distinct sounds and feel, affecting how an instrument interacts with the player and the environment.

Gate

A gate, or noise gate, is a dynamics tool used to reduce unwanted noise by muting the signal when it falls below a set level. When the input signal rises above the threshold, the gate opens and allows sound through; when it drops below, the signal is reduced or silenced.

Noise gates are commonly used in guitar rigs and recording setups to control hum, hiss, and feedback, especially with high-gain or distorted sounds. They help keep playing tight and clean by eliminating background noise during pauses without affecting the intended performance.

Mini

Mini describes a compact or scaled-down version of a guitar pedal or piece of gear, designed to save space without sacrificing core functionality. Mini pedals are ideal for crowded pedalboards, travel rigs, or players who want essential sounds in a smaller footprint while keeping their setup simple and efficient.

Noise

Noise is an effect category focused on controlling unwanted hum, hiss, and interference in a guitar signal. Noise gates and noise suppressors reduce background noise when you are not playing, helping keep high-gain and complex pedal setups tight, clean, and controlled without affecting the core tone.

Pedal

Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own.
