The Mad Professor Super Black is essentially a Fender Blackface – in a box! Carefully replicating the amp's signal path, Mad Professor designed the Super Black to allow players to easily turn their amplifiers into vintage '60s Fender glory!

While the Super Black works well straight into the front-end of your amp, don’t be afraid to also plug it into the return jack of your amp's effects loop. This way, you can bypass the preamp of your amp and get the sound of a full Blackface signal path without the colour of your amp's preamp stage.

Here's what Mad Professor says about the Super Black Pedal:

Classic Blackface Tones

Super Black is an amp-in-a-box pedal that will deliver the punchy, mid scooped and sparkling chimey clean tone that Fender Blackface amplifiers are famous for. And this might be the most sought after Fender sound! It'll also deliver the most beautiful and amp-like break up tone you could imagine. Gain and Volume controls make it easy to find the sweet spot and nail this iconic tone at any volume; still retaining full clarity.

Fender Blackface amps, when pushed nearly all the way, produce fantastic classic overdriven tones as well. At this point, even the smallest models are fairly loud though. Enter the Mad Professor Super Black and you have a rocking machine at your feet at any volume.

Bass & Compression Switches

We at Mad Professor Amplification noticed some variation in the amounts of both low end and compression, depending on the model when we looked at both big and small Blackface amps. Therefore we added two mini switches, one for the bass and one for compression. You get to tailor these characteristics, whether you want more or less, by adjusting these two switches.

Sweet Honey Overdrive Circuit

And there is more! We added our best-selling overdrive pedal, Sweet Honey Overdrive, to boost the front end of the Super Black. Sweet Honey Overdrive pedal into a Blackface amp is a magic combination! Now you have even more possibilities when you are fine-tuning your overdriven tones with the rest of your gear. Having its own on/off switch plus Volume and Drive controls means you can use the Sweet Honey circuit separately too!

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Stuff About Preamp Pedals

Preamp pedals are designed to shape and boost a guitar’s core tone, often acting as the front end of an amplifier or as a complete amp-style sound on a pedalboard. They can add clean gain, warmth, EQ control, or amp-like drive, and are commonly used to improve signal strength, push an amp harder, or run directly into a power amp or recording interface. Understanding output level, EQ controls and how they interact with other pedals helps players use preamp pedals effectively in both live and studio setups.

The Important stuff

Black — Black instruments and gear offer a timeless, understated look that fits almost any style of music or setup. Whether it’s a guitar, pedal or accessory, a black finish is often chosen for its clean appearance, practicality and stage-ready feel. If you prefer gear that looks focused, professional and never goes out of fashion, black options deliver a classic aesthetic with no distractions.. Overdrive — Overdrive pedals add warmth, grit, and natural compression to your tone, capturing the feel of a pushed tube amp. They respond dynamically to your playing, offering everything from a light bluesy crunch to full, saturated rock tones. Perfect for boosting solos or shaping your core sound, an overdrive pedal brings character and life to any setup. Whether you prefer vintage smoothness or modern bite, these pedals are essential for players who want expressive, touch-sensitive drive with plenty of personality.. Pedal — Pedals are the tools that let you shape, colour and transform your sound, from subtle tone enhancement to bold, creative effects. Whether you are adding grit, space, movement or control, a pedal becomes part of your playing rather than just an add-on. Exploring different pedals is about discovering what responds to your touch and helps your sound feel more like your own.. preamp. Super.
