The Victory V4 ‘The Countess’ is a premium grade preamp pedal from the V4 Series, that offers a fully-analogue, valve-driven, dual gain stage option for your pedalboard setup.

In recent years Victory Amps has become one of the UK’s most-popular amplifier brands, and whilst being renowned for their lunchbox-style amp heads, they also make some of the best tone-shaping pedals on the market – such as the V4 ‘The Countess’.

Featuring a set of flexible and comprehensive controls, with a 3-band EQ, independent volume controls for each Gain channel, a Bright switch, and much more besides, this pedal would make a superb tone-shaping option for any guitar-players setup.

Key Features

  • Two Gain Modes – This superb preamp pedal features both Higher and Lower gain modes, each with independent Volume controls. These modes can be switch via the top panel or remotely via the side-mounted TRS jacks, as can the Bypass (on/off) function.
  • 3-Position Bright Switch – As effects loops and amp front ends tend to differ dramatically, the V4 Preamp pedal features a 3-way Bright switch that allows it to best match up to your amplifier!
  • 3-Band EQ – Fine tune your overall output with these powerful Bass, Middle, and Treble parameter controls. These controls also act like their counterparts in a valve amplifier, by having a significant effect on the preamp’s gain character.
  • Protective Rail – Designed to keep your control knobs safe as you “stomp” your way to victory, this protective rail is a must-have for regular performers.
  • Power Inlet – As this pedal features four valves you will need plenty of current running through it, which is why a 12v DC power adapter with an 800mA (minimum) current draw is recommended.

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Stuff About Preamp Pedals

Preamp pedals are designed to shape and boost a guitar’s core tone, often acting as the front end of an amplifier or as a complete amp-style sound on a pedalboard. They can add clean gain, warmth, EQ control, or amp-like drive, and are commonly used to improve signal strength, push an amp harder, or run directly into a power amp or recording interface. Understanding output level, EQ controls and how they interact with other pedals helps players use preamp pedals effectively in both live and studio setups.
