The DGT is the result of more than 20 years of collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and David Grissom. The guitar is based on the McCarty platform with a unique DGT neck shape, taller frets, special pickups, and a revised control layout. Grissom and Paul spent a year A/B-ing more than forty sets of pickups before nailing the vintage-voice of DGT humbuckers. When paired with individual volume controls for each pickup and a push/pull master tone control that operates the coil taps, these DGT pickups provide superb versatility and articulation.

“The DGT is a product a lot of miles down the road: a lot of gigs, a lot of records. It’s like picking up a vintage guitar. It sounds like a vintage guitar, and out of the box it’s ready to go. There’s a whole lot of thought gone into this. The DGT is pretty perfect to me.” — David Grissom

Key Features

  • Mahogany Body & Neck — Delivers a deep and sustain-rich sound; giving the pickups a broader and more harmonically-exciting tone.
  • Rosewood Fingerboard — A luxurious, silky material that enhances mid-range warmth.
  • PRS DGT Pickups — Beautiful rhythm and solo tones with a “Texas” voice.
  • 3-Position Pickup Lever Switch — Yields 3 sounds: bridge humbucker, neck humbucker or a combination of the two.
  • Push/Pull Tone Knob — Just pull the tone control up to coil-tap the humbuckers and attain crystal clear single-coil “chime”. Exquisite with clean settings, and expands the tonal palette to 6 sounds in total!
  • PRS Patented Tremolo, Machined — Meticulous design delivering sonic fidelity, player ergonomics, and revolutionary tuning stability.
  • PRS Phase III Locking Tuners — Modern locking technology with vintage elegance, these tuners promote tone transfer for a louder, more resonant instrument.

Stuff About Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.
