Here's what Electro Harmonix say about the J Mascis Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi

The J Mascis Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi fuzz pedal pays homage to the sonic center of the alt-rock legend’s iconic tone of equal parts thickness and clarity in a special edition white and violet finish.

“That’s my sound. The Muff is always on,” J says. “All distorted sounds begin with the Muff. That’s what I grew up playing so it’s kind of amazing to have my own signature one.”

Based on the highly coveted 1973 Electro-Harmonix V2 Violet Ram’s Head Big Muff, J’s signature Big Muff produces the indulgent fuzz and exceptional sustain used as his sonic center for decades.

The fuzz is sonically more articulate than other Big Muffs with excellent string separation and dynamics, which make it one of the most versatile Big Muffs. The pedal’s response feels smooth and aggressive making your leads scream and chords thunder.

Feel the fuzz of a guitar giant: the J Mascis Ram’s Head Big Muff Pi fuzz pedal from Electro-Harmonix.

Stuff About Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

The Important stuff

Big. Fuzz — Fuzz is one of the earliest and most distinctive guitar effects, known for its thick, gritty, and saturated tone that completely transforms your sound. It works by heavily clipping the audio signal, producing a raw, almost broken distortion that defined the sound of the ’60s and ’70s rock era. Classic pedals like the Fuzz Face and Big Muff became legendary for their roaring sustain and rich harmonic texture. Modern fuzz pedals range from vintage-style warmth to wild, synth-like chaos, making them perfect for players who want to add character, attitude, and a touch of chaos to their tone.. Guitar Amp Head — Guitar amp heads contain the main tone-shaping and power section of an amplifier, designed to be paired with a separate speaker cabinet. They let you choose different cabinets to suit your sound and setup, offering flexibility for home, studio or live use. If you want control over volume, tone and character without being tied to a single combo format, amp heads give you a modular way to build the rig that works best for you.. Muff.
