The Custom 24 from PRS can be considered a modern classic with its merge of vintage construction and aesthetics with features designed to please the modern player. The 24-08 is an evolution of this impressive design that adds even more tonal options to an already versatile. The core range are all crafted to a high standard in PRS’ USA factory in Maryland. The quality craftsmanship, vintage inspiration, and modern features combine to make the Custom 24-08 a truly special instrument.

Body and Neck

The Custom 24 uses the tried and tested combo of a mahogany body with a set mahogany neck. This pairing is beloved by players for its excellent sustain, and some say it adds warmth to the tone. In addition to the mahogany body is a flame maple top which is more visually interesting than plain mahogany and gives the guitar a striking look.

The neck shape is what PRS call a “Pattern Regular” neck. Pattern Regular is a comfortable shape, with enough to grip and play chords while still being good for soloing. No baseball bat necks here! The fingerboard is made from rosewood, another classic choice that provides a smooth, natural feeling playing surface. The Custom 24 has a 25″ scale length and a 10″ fingerboard radius which are both great middle-grounds for guitars. The 25″ scale is versatile, offering comfortable tension with 9s, 10s, or even higher. The 10″ fingerboard is a good balance between flatter and curvier fingerboards making it ideal for chords and soloing alike.

Electronics and Hardware

The Custom 24 comes loaded with two PRS 85/15 humbuckers. These are modern updates to PRS’ original humbuckers from 1985. These pickups have all the punch and power that you’d expect from humbuckers but with emphasis in the upper midrange, and a less prominent lower midrange. The 85/15s are articulate with great note definition which means they handle genres as wide as jazz, blues, funk, and rock.

The switching is what really sets the Custom 24-08 apart from its regular version. In addition to the 3-way blade switch, the Custom 24-08 has two mini toggles for coil tapping the humbuckers. Coil-tapping gives you a thinner, more single-coil-like tone than a full humbucker. With this switching system you can coil-tap both pickups and switch between them or pair a coil-tapped pickup with a full humbucker. This gives you eight distinct pickup tones to help you cover any style and sound you want to play.

The PRS Patented Gen III Tremolo bridge has a smooth action and allows you to incorporate pitch bending into your playing. The PRS Phase III Locking tuners perfectly complement the tremolo bridge by improving your tuning stability so you can get good use out of your tremolo without having to constantly re-tune.

Electric Guitars

Electric guitars use magnetic pickups to convert string vibration into an electrical signal, allowing the sound to be shaped through amplifiers and effects. Key things to understand include body shape, pickup type, neck profile, scale length and bridge design, as these all affect tone, feel and sustain. They are used across almost every modern genre, from clean and expressive to high-gain and aggressive styles, making them one of the most versatile instruments available.

Custom

Custom describes gear that is specially designed, modified, or built to unique specifications rather than standard production. Custom pedals, guitars, and equipment often focus on specific tones, features, or aesthetics, offering a more personalised feel and performance for players who want something distinctive.

Sunburst

Sunburst refers to a classic guitar finish that fades from a darker edge to a lighter centre, showcasing the natural beauty of the wood beneath. It’s one of the most recognisable and timeless looks in guitar design, adding depth, warmth, and vintage character to any instrument. Available in styles like two-tone, three-tone, and cherry sunburst, each variation brings its own personality and flair. Whether on an acoustic or electric guitar, a sunburst finish captures that perfect blend of tradition and style, making every instrument look as good as it sounds.
