The John Mayer SE Silver Sky is an affordable version of the modern blues-pop master's best-selling PRS signature guitar that was first introduced in 2018. Strongly resembling Mayer's USA model with its elegant double-cutaway body, inverted PRS headstock and trio of single-coil pickups — the PRS SE Silver Sky Maple is a versatile workhorse designed to provide similarly exquisite tones and familiar playability, but at a far more accessible price-point!
Key Features
Poplar Body — Often likened to Alder, Poplar is comparably balanced in sound with a slightly lighter feel.
Bolt-On Construction — Produces a snappy note response for an immediate playing experience.
25.5" Scale Length — Provides optimal string tension; letting you dig in for funky "New Light" style chords while allowing for soulful, expressive string bends.
Maple Neck with Original '635JM' Carve — Based on the same custom neck shape used for Mayer's USA Silver Sky. According to Lee Anderton, PRS "nailed" it! Features a satin-style finish for a smooth and natural playing feel.
8.5" Fingerboard Radius — Offers a slightly flatter and more contemporary feel than the vintage-inspired 7.25" radius on the USA Silver Sky model.
635JM "S" Pickups — Designed to capture the sound of the single-coils in the American-made Silver Sky, these pickups "bark and sing" according to PRS!
5-Way Pickup Switching — Provides a wide sonic palette; letting you isolate each pickup or combine the middle single-coil with the bridge/neck pickups for those classic "in-between" tones.
2-Point Steel Tremolo — A reliable bridge that enables smooth vibrato whenever inspiration strikes.
Vintage-Style Tuners — Possess a classy, traditional look and allow for precise string pitching.
Included PRS SE Gig Bag — High-quality design ensures solid protection for the instrument.

Maple is a type of hardwood commonly used in the construction of guitar necks and fingerboards due to its strength, stability, and attractive appearance. It is known for its light color, fine grain pattern, and smooth texture, making it a popular choice among guitar manufacturers and players alike.
In guitar construction, maple is often used for:
Necks: Maple is a popular wood choice for guitar necks due to its stability and durability. It provides a bright and articulate tone with good sustain, making it well-suited for a wide range of playing styles. Maple necks are often finished with a clear gloss or satin finish to highlight the natural beauty of the wood.
Fingerboards: Maple is also used for guitar fingerboards, the smooth surface where the frets are embedded. Maple fingerboards offer a bright and snappy tone with excellent clarity and definition. They are often finished with a clear gloss or satin finish to protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
Top Woods: Maple is occasionally used as a top wood for electric guitars, particularly in semi-hollow and hollow-body designs. Maple tops can provide a bright and articulate tone with enhanced clarity and sustain.
Overall, maple is valued in guitar construction for its combination of strength, tonal properties, and aesthetic appeal. It is commonly used in conjunction with other woods, such as mahogany or alder, to achieve specific tonal characteristics and visual aesthetics in electric guitar designs.
