Here’s what Yamaha say:

Inspired by our iconic ‘red label’ guitars of the 1960s, our new FG Red Label folk models blend modern inspiration with a timeless design. Featuring a classic semi-gloss finish and high-quality components, these guitars capture an authentic vintage aesthetic.

The mahogany back and sides are paired with a premium Sitka spruce top, treated with our Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (ARE) process for genuine aged-wood tone and sustain. A new scalloped-bracing design delivers plenty of volume, while the groundbreaking Atmosfeel three-way pickup system provides a natural acoustic sound when amplified.

Key Features

  • ARE: Acoustic Resonance Enhancement
Our proprietary ARE treatment accelerates the natural aging of tonewood by adjusting heat, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. This process removes imperfections and moisture, producing a rich, vintage-quality tone as if the guitar has been played for years.
  • Atmosfeel Pickup System
The Atmosfeel 3-way pickup & preamp system uses a piezo sensor in the bridge to capture low frequencies, a microphone for low and mid-range, and our proprietary contact sensor for high frequencies. The result is a full, natural sound with simple controls for a great plugged-in tone.
  • Microphone Blend: When fully clockwise, the signal is 50% mic and 50% piezo + contact sensor. When fully counterclockwise, the mic is removed.
  • The mic is ideal for solo performers and chordal players, while a lower blend suits finger-style players and those playing in full-band settings.
  • Bass EQ: Controls low frequencies, raising the center frequency when boosting and lowering it when attenuating to prevent problematic stage frequencies.

Stuff About Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic guitars produce their sound naturally through the vibration of the strings and body, offering a direct and expressive playing experience. They come in a wide range of styles, including steel string and classical designs, each with its own feel and tonal character. Body shape, wood choice, and construction all influence warmth, projection, and balance, making acoustics suitable for everything from gentle fingerstyle to confident strumming. Whether used for songwriting, practice, or performance, acoustic guitars provide a simple, honest connection between the player and the music.

Stuff About Guitars

Guitars cover a wide range of instruments designed to suit different styles, techniques, and sounds, from acoustic and classical models to solid body, semi-hollow, and hollow electric designs. Factors like body shape, scale length, neck profile, string type, and pickups all influence how a guitar feels and responds, making each type suited to different players and musical approaches. Whether used for rhythm, lead, songwriting, or experimentation, guitars are expressive, versatile instruments that form the heart of countless genres and playing styles.

Stuff About Steel String Acoustic Guitars

Steel string acoustic guitars are known for their bright, clear tone and strong projection, making them a popular choice for strumming, fingerpicking, and songwriting. Using steel strings gives them more tension and volume than classical guitars, resulting in a sound that cuts through well whether played solo or alongside other instruments. They come in a range of body shapes and sizes, each influencing balance, resonance, and comfort. From delicate fingerstyle passages to powerful rhythm playing, steel string acoustics are versatile instruments that respond well to dynamics and playing style, both at home and on stage.
