The Yamaha FG5 red label acoustic guitar brings back the classic Yamaha acoustic guitar from the 1960s.

Re-Introducing the Yamaha FG Red Label

Back in the 1960s, Yamaha launched their iconic “red label” guitars; their first steel string guitars.

Even played on stage at Woodstock, the Yamaha red label guitars have gone on to be known as a real milestone in Yamaha’s history of guitar building.

Using a newly developed wood ageing process and taking a healthy dose of inspiration from the original lineup, the new Yamaha FG Red Label series gives you excellent, vintage tone and fantastic performance.

A.R.E. Treated Wood

Premium solid Sitka Spruce has been used for the top of the Yamaha FG5 red label acoustic guitar.

Known for its broad range of tones and great combination of strength and flexibility, Spruce is possibly the most popular wood in acoustic guitar building.

Already delivering fantastic sound, the Sitka Spruce top has also been treated to Yamaha’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (or “A.R.E.”) process.

Using a combination of controlled heat, humidity and pressure, the Yamaha A.R.E. process authentically ages the wood.

As a result, you get a new guitar that has the increased resonance, improved sustain and all-around better tone you expect from a guitar you’ve been playing for decades.

Yamaha have complemented the Yamaha FG5’s solid Sitka Spruce top with solid Mahogany back and sides, completing the all-solid construction of this fantastic guitar.

Not only does Mahogany look beautiful but it brings with it increased volume and pronounced trebles that have a clear, bright and airy character.

Dreadnought Style Acoustic with New Bracing Pattern

Offering fantastic versatility, the dreadnought is the most popular style of acoustic guitar.

As a dreadnought guitar, the Yamaha FG5 produces deep, rounded tone that’s ideal for strumming styles so it is the perfect guitar for rhythm guitarists and singer-songwriters.

In order to further improve the Yamaha FG5’s suitability as a folk guitar or companion for singer-songwriters, Yamaha have crafted the guitar with a new bracing pattern.

Starting with the scalloped bracing design found on the popular FG-180 50th anniversary reissue, Yamaha then made several adjustments through thorough measurement and experimentation.

The new bracing pattern adjustments are also optimised for the natural characteristics of the Yamaha FG5 guitar’s tone woods.

As a result, you get full and powerful tone with enhanced low-frequency response.

Performance Enhancing Features

Attached to the body of the Yamaha FG5 red label acoustic guitar is an African Mahogany neck that boasts a matt finish for a smooth and comfortable playability.

Atop the neck is an Ebony fretboard which is stronger and more durable than Rosewood with its tight grain lending itself well to speedy performance.

The bridge and bridge pins are also made from Ebony, providing excellent transfer of vibration energy from your strings to the resonating A.R.E. treated solid Sitka Spruce top.

Bone has been used for the nut and saddle which further enhances transfer efficiency of energy from your strings to the neck and body giving you natural, loud and clear tone with fantastic sustain.

Up on the headstock, which boasts the original Yamaha FG headstock shape, you’ll find the truss rod cover is emblazoned with “Since 1966” as a nod to when the first Yamaha FG guitars were launched.

Here, you’ll also find six Gotoh open gear chrome tuning machines providing precise and incredibly secure tuning of your strings.

Made in Japan

Made in Japan to the highest quality control standards and featuring premium materials, the Yamaha FG5 red label acoustic guitar offers uncompromising, high end performance with authentic vintage style and tone.

To protect your new Yamaha FG5 guitar, it comes to you in a hardshell case which is perfect for carrying your guitar to gigs or storing it safely at home.

Stuff About Guitars

Guitars cover a wide range of instruments designed to suit different styles, techniques, and sounds, from acoustic and classical models to solid body, semi-hollow, and hollow electric designs. Factors like body shape, scale length, neck profile, string type, and pickups all influence how a guitar feels and responds, making each type suited to different players and musical approaches. Whether used for rhythm, lead, songwriting, or experimentation, guitars are expressive, versatile instruments that form the heart of countless genres and playing styles.
