Designed in 1968!
These pickups are exact replicas of what Jimi Hendrix had in his guitar in 1968 and later. In fact you can probably hear these pickups on some sections of Electric Ladyland as well as Band Of Gypsys. The originals were given to Jimi by Seymour Duncan himself who wound them in early 1968.
Replicating A Legend
Because of Jimi’s unique playing style some elements did need to be changed. Like the pole pieces which have been reversed to match the way Jimi would have used them. Apart from that the pickup is as close as it gets to the real deal. Screaming lead tones that sustain for days and the ability to clean up beautifully for that classic chimey strat tone.
Voodoo Route Pickguard
Jimi is well known for playing a right handed guitar upside down to fit his left handed playing. This made a few differences but the main one was that the bridge pickup was angled in the opposite direction. To simulate this Seymour Duncan have created the Voodoo Route pickguard. This flips the angle of the bridge pickup on any right handed strat that has a humbucker or swimming pool body route (to see this take off your pickguard and see how much space you have for the pickups).

That Strat was loaded with pickups Seymour had wound just for Jimi and that unforgettable night would set in motion Seymour’s future – and his legacy almost five decades later. Like Jimi’s music, the Jimi Hendrix Signature Strat Set pickups have their roots in the traditional but with an eye on the future. Each is custom wound for a richer, melodic tone. The bridge model has an aggressive attack that cuts through while staying true to his iconic lead tone. The neck pickup sounds thick and full and is great for chord work, bluesy melodies, double-stops and Jimi’s signature hybrid chord/melody style. And in the in-between positions there’s plenty of that classic Strat ‘quack.’
