Gibson have yet again refined the design that proved to be their most popular, used by the likes of Elvis and David Gilmour amongst countless others!

The understated workhorse

Since the introduction of the J-45 in 1942, Gibson have used a mahogany back and sides with a luscious Sitka spruce top. Its rounded shoulder design offers a broad sound with wonderful projection, incredibly responsive to all of your chosen styles!

The J-45’s timeless curves and rosewood fretboard ensure a wholly comfortable playing experience. Unlike some of Gibson’s other acoustics, this guitar features a slim taper neck profile, so you’ll be able to comfortably play for long periods of time…which is just as well, as you’ll struggle to part ways with this thing once you get going!

Part of the J-45’s reputation is its iconic appearance; the alluring vintage sunburst finish and ‘tortoise teardrop’ pickguard are picture perfect.

Hardware & electronics

This year, Gibson have chosen rosewood as their bridge material, adding to its excellent sustain. Tusq is used for both the nut and the saddle for extra tonal consistency and resilience, and the Grover Rotomatic tuners provide the familiar excellent tuning stability.

Finally, the 2019 J-45 features the LR Baggs VTC pickup system. This pickup uniquely aims to mirror the movement of the guitar rather than the attack of the strings, and it’s designed to capture the most detailed nuances of your playing style.

Stuff About Gibson

Gibson has long stood as a symbol of American craftsmanship and musical heritage, shaping the sound of rock, blues, and jazz for over a century. Founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1902, Gibson became legendary with instruments like the Les Paul, SG, and ES series, each known for their rich sustain, premium tonewoods, and iconic designs. The brand’s pioneering use of humbucker pickups and carved maple tops created the warm, powerful sound that defines countless classic recordings. Played by greats such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Angus Young, Gibson guitars continue to represent timeless quality, innovation, and a deep connection between player and instrument.

The Important stuff

Acoustic Guitars — Acoustic guitars are timeless instruments known for their natural tone, warmth, and versatility. Using a hollow wooden body to amplify the sound of vibrating strings, they produce a rich and resonant voice that suits everything from gentle fingerpicking to lively strumming. Favoured by singer-songwriters, folk musicians, and performers across countless genres, acoustic guitars are valued for their simplicity and expressiveness. Available in various body shapes such as dreadnought, concert, and parlour, each offers a unique tonal character and feel. Whether played around a campfire or on stage, acoustic guitars continue to connect people through their pure, organic sound.. Sunburst — Sunburst refers to a classic guitar finish that fades from a darker edge to a lighter centre, showcasing the natural beauty of the wood beneath. It’s one of the most recognisable and timeless looks in guitar design, adding depth, warmth, and vintage character to any instrument. Available in styles like two-tone, three-tone, and cherry sunburst, each variation brings its own personality and flair. Whether on an acoustic or electric guitar, a sunburst finish captures that perfect blend of tradition and style, making every instrument look as good as it sounds..
