Steve Vai is known as much for his stage presence and show as he is for his incredible guitar playing. His over the top visuals and movement makes his shows a must see for any fan of guitar based music. This JEM77P is the embodiment of his flashy stage show in guitar form. The new finish isn’t all that makes this guitar different.

Premium Treatment

The RG series now has 5 different variants. You’re looking at the RG Premium which is underpinned by 3 principles: Precision, Performance and Playability. To get this guitar playing at its best, the guys at Ibanez asked for insights and suggestions from musicians around the world to create a guitar that you just cant put down. With the JEM77P you’re looking at the latest manufacturing and design innovations from Ibanez.

Stunning Look

The first thing you probably notices is the blue floral pattern finish on the body and the blue tree of life inalys. It is certainly an unusual design but it is absolutely stunning at the same time. If you are getting a bit bored of the traditional single colour or burst tops this is one of the best finishes I have seen in a while. Don’t worry they haven’t covered up the finish with a large dark pickguard. Instead Ibanez have opted for a clear pickguard so you still get the beautiful floral design underneath.

A Little Bit Different

There are a few key tweaks that have been made to this guitar that make it a different beast than you may be used to out of the Steve Vai series. The maple fretboard on top of a 5 piece maple/walnut neck matches the American basswood body well to create an acoustic sound that is focused and bright. To make sure it doesn’t get too bright when running through your amplifier this model has the brand new DiMarzio Gravity Storm pickups in the neck and bridge positions. While his earlier Evolution pickups were fierce bright monsters, these ones offer a much warmer mellow sound that compliments the woods well so you still get astonishing high gain rhythm and lead sounds.

Hardware That Lasts

At no point in their range do Ibanez skimp out on the hardware. From the jumbo frets that have been finished with Ibanez’s Premium fret edge treatment that rounds the edges for smoother playing, to the Edge Zero II tremolo every part of this guitar has been meticulously chosen. This means that you can rely on this guitar night after night.
