Here’s what Mesa say:

The Dual Rectifier Solo Head’s release in 1992 marked a new paradigm in high-gain heavy guitar. It delivered a new voice from MESA Engineering featuring a scooped midrange, ominous low end, and ripping, harmonic-laden top end woven into a mighty wall of tube gain. With a feel as empowering as its sound, the Rectifiers provided an ease of playing that supported and elevated proficiency and was inspirational, rewarding, and addictive. Its sound and impact on the generation that used it to define what rock music would become were as sweeping as they have been lasting. It has gone on to become one of the most recorded and imitated tube amps ever, as well as arguably the most modeled in today’s digital amp landscape.

With reverence and pride, we announce the 90s Dual Rectifier, a faithful recreation of the tube amp that redefined high gain and provided much of the soundtrack of a generation, with some welcome upgrades like improved cleans that enhance but don’t distract.

Key Features

  • Dual Channel Simplicity – Simple, straightforward design for ease of use and great tone fast
  • Channel Style/Cloning – Allows “cloning” of the mode voicings of either channel
  • Patented Switchable Rectifiers – Tube or silicon diode rectification to tune the sound, character, and feel
  • 100 Watts of Robust Class A/B Tube Power – Bias Select switch for stock 6L6 tubes or a swap to EL34 tubes
  • BOLD/SPONGY “Variac” Switch – Reduced voltage setting for increased harmonics and elastic feel

The Legendary Rectifier Sound

With harmonic-laden gain and ominous low end, the “Recto” became the foundation for radio-worthy songs whose main source of propulsion was huge Crunch rhythm and searing Lead or octave hooks. Its options for tuning the sound and feel made it the go-to for anyone needing maximum width and girth within a three-piece scenario, while its looks provided an aggressively styled backdrop.

Stuff About Amp Heads

An amp head contains the core tone and power of a guitar amplifier without the built-in speakers, allowing you to pair it with the cabinet of your choice. This setup offers greater flexibility over sound and volume, as different speaker cabinets can dramatically change the feel and character of the amp. Amp heads are available in valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, ranging from low-wattage studio models to high-powered touring rigs. They’re ideal for players who want a modular setup, precise control over their tone, and the ability to adapt their rig to different venues, cabinets, or recording situations.

Stuff About Amps

Guitar amps cover everything needed to amplify, shape, and project your guitar sound, from small practice setups to full stage and studio rigs. In this category you’ll find combo amps, separate amp heads and speaker cabinets, covering valve, solid-state, and hybrid designs, each offering a different feel and response. You’ll also see modelling and digital amps, built-in effects, footswitches, attenuation solutions, replacement speakers, valves, and essential accessories to keep an amp performing at its best. Whether you’re chasing pristine cleans, classic crunch, or modern high-gain tones, guitar amps and related gear are all about finding the right balance of power, tone, and control for the way you play.

The Important stuff

Guitar Amp Head — Guitar amp heads contain the main tone-shaping and power section of an amplifier, designed to be paired with a separate speaker cabinet. They let you choose different cabinets to suit your sound and setup, offering flexibility for home, studio or live use.
