Here’s what Morningstar say:

The MC8 enhances your MIDI controller experience with a larger screen and more switches. With a 5-pin MIDI output and four 1/4″ Omniports, you have more than enough MIDI outputs to connect directly to all your MIDI devices even if they do not have MIDI Thru ports.

Each Omniports can function as an expression pedal input, aux switch input or MIDI output so you have maximum flexibility to suit your needs. 30 dual-page banks of 8 switches give you quick access to 16 fully programmable presets per bank simply by pressing switches B+C to toggle between pages 1 and 2.

Key Features

  • Universal MIDI Controller – Morningstar controllers are compatible with any device that accepts MIDI, regardless of brand or model.
  • MIDI & Function Message Types – Every switch on a Morningstar controller is independently programmable. Choose to send any type of MIDI message including PC, CC, Note, SysEx, MIDI Clock, MMC and many more.
  • Message Stacking – Send up to 16 different MIDI messages across 16 MIDI channels with each switch.
  • Action-Based Control – Send different groups of messages depending on what action you perform. Assignable actions include Press, Release, Double Tap, Long Press and more.
  • MIDI Clock – Send, receive and relay MIDI clock to keep your effects synced. You have the option to tap in a tempo on-the-fly or send pre-set BPM.

USB Class Compliant & Powered

With MIDI over USB, control your favourite DAWs, plugins and music software on your computer or iPad. Easily MIDI map your desired controls to your foot switches with software like Ableton Live and Logic Pro. Morningstar controllers are also fully USB powered so you don’t have to concern yourself with a separate power supply.

Expression Pedal Control

Connect an expression pedal for smooth continuous MIDI control with user selectable pedal response curves. A single expression pedal becomes a multi-function expression pedal with MIDI. Use one expression pedal to control multiple different effect parameters with the ability to select/deselect what messages you want your expression pedal to send on the fly.

Multi-Type MIDI Outputs

All Morningstar controllers can send MIDI via their 5-pin, TRS and USB ports. This gives you direct connectivity to any MIDI device, without the need for a MIDI box or splitter.

MIDI CC Waveforms

Four independent MIDI Waveform Engines allow you to send continuous streams of CC messages. Choose from Saw, Triangle, Sine and Square wave shapes. Set your own minimum & maximum values, sync them to MIDI clock or have them independent. Automated modulation for your pedalboard is now a reality.

Expandable with AUX Switches

Add more switches to a Morningstar controller for more control over your presets and controller navigation.

Morningstar Editor App

With a powerful and intuitive editor application, programming your Morningstar controller is fast and easy. The Morningstar editor lets you view all your switch and message settings at once, allowing you to quickly make changes and name your switches/banks with great clarity.

More info about this Product

Guitar Pedals

Guitar pedals are compact effects units that shape and enhance a guitar’s sound, sitting between the instrument and the amplifier. They include gain pedals like overdrive and distortion, modulation effects such as chorus and tremolo, time-based effects like delay and reverb, and essential utilities including tuners, compressors and loopers. Understanding basic things such as pedal type, signal order, power requirements and intended use helps players choose pedals that suit their style, setup and playing environment.

Controller

A controller is a device used to send control information to other equipment without generating sound on its own. It allows parameters such as notes, effects, presets, or levels to be adjusted remotely, often using footswitches, knobs, sliders, or keys.

Controllers are widely used in modern music setups to manage pedals, processors, synthesizers, and software. They enable complex systems to be operated easily and consistently, especially in live performance and studio environments where hands-free or centralised control is needed.

MIDI

MIDI is a digital communication standard that allows electronic instruments, controllers, and audio equipment to send and receive performance data rather than audio signals. This data includes information such as note on and off messages, pitch, velocity, control changes, and timing, enabling different devices to work together in sync.

In music gear, MIDI is used to control synthesizers, drum machines, effects units, and software from keyboards, pedals, or computers. It allows complex setups to be automated and coordinated, making it essential for studio production, live performance, and modern electronic and hybrid music rigs.
